We intend to put a Lance 1030 on our rig in the near future. How does a slide in camper of that length afftect my hitch considerations?

I know that I'll need an extension bar but how long I don't know.

My understanding is that there is a possiblity I'll need a Class V hitch if the extension gets beyond say 18".

My boat and trailer probably weighs no more than 2K, even with all my Muskie tackle loaded in it. So I won't be pulling anything very big weight wise.

Just wondering if I should be budgeting for a Reese Titan or the equivalent.

Thanks,

Tim

Weigh your boat/trailer, so you know it's weight for sure.

The extenders will derate the hitch capacity, the longer the extender the less weight it'll hold.

What with the rear bumper and all on the camper, I'll bet you are out 24 in. or better

I had an extension made about 4 yrs. ago for my caribu camper. It's probably around 30". The step bumper on the camper has two brackets that the extension fits between. The extension sits on top of a bolt between the brackets with alittle bit of preload. This seems like it would distribute the load between the camper and hitch. It was originally made for my '95 and had to have it cut and rewelded for the '01 because there was almost a 2" difference in the hight. Has worked great so far.

Hitch

Torklift is the way to go, it is built very strong, Stay away from the reese titan with extension, you will have alot of bounce(Flex) with the extension.

Torklift also has tiedowns that are well built also. I am not affiliated with this company just very impressed with there product and service. Check out there website www.torklift.com

I had the Torklift Super Hitch installed about a month ago. I towed with the 4ft extension two weeks ago. Just like towing without the extension. I highly recommend it. The extensions come in varying lengths.

Torklift hitch

Thanks for the feedback. I've heard nothing but good about the Torklift products. That's the route I had planned to take for the tie downs at the very least. Now I guess I should plan on their hitch as well.

My boat weighs no more than 2400 lbs when I add up the factory weights for boat, motor and trailer. It's just a 16' aluminum deep vee Alumacraft muskie/smallmouth/walleye chasing rig. :)

Anyways, since I like to err on the side of caution, my best option appears to be the Torklift and have the 48" extension (stinger) cut to the appropriate length for the camper. The Torklift hitch should be more than a match for my existing boat.

Btw, picked up the '02 today. The HO lives up to its' name. :) I think I'm really gonna like this truck. As long as the KLP (killer lift pump) holds up anyway. :)

Order your camper tiedowns with the Super Hitch not separately. Torklift has two versions of the camper tiedowns for the rear of the truck. One with Super Hitch and the other with stock setup.
