Re: Re: A wee bit of enlightenment
Don't have those numbers for you. It would be hard to get those numbers with all the Canadian trucks that go to the USA. At least pre 2003 trucks went south in truck loads.
RE: Friction modifier... DC's first fix for the NV 5600 in their trucks is to add the LSD additive when theres a complaint of notchey shifting. We never did do this on the trans that came in the truck. They even tested the fluid to make sure I had what is suggested in there before any more work would be done on the truck. After speaking with a few guys that added the Lubetec additive that had over 100K on their trans, I put some in.
Heres something elese that the dealer got for me... the trucks that had failed gears in the NV 5600 where in very cold weather, some stock and some not. It was -47F the day mine took a dump and I had been driving down the highway for over an hour when it failed.

Scott good information. Just one question how many NV5600's in Canada? The reason I ask is 51 could be low or it could be real high. As a comparison - say 20 people had lung cancer in a certain town. That might mean there is a major problem if the town was Nixa Missouri with a population of 200. But if it was Atlanta Georgia with a population of 2,000,000 it would mean that lung cancer was not a problem. Catch my driftGot to have all of the numbers. From what I have read the NV5600 is a very dependable transmission. I know that like yourself some people are having problems which can be expected with any product. Also anytime you add anything like a unauthorized friction modifier to the NV5600 you are adding another variable to the formula and skewing the data by possibly increasing the failure rate (I hope that what you just added to your NV5600 does not cause a premature failure). I do know that NV made some design changes in the NV5600 starting in early 2002 model Dodge CTD's which may have eliminated some of these problems. I know that my late manufacture (July 2002) NV5600 shifts great. I hope all of your problems are behind you.
