What is this hole for. Looks like a sensor should go there but there's nothing but a threaded hole that leaks air.
The 2012 3500 is new to me only one week. Truck came from an auction in TX. The local dealer mechanic does not know.
The newer trucks that we looked at were not drilled/tapped there.

Can't really tell where it is. Can you take a photo with a wider angle and pointing to the hole?

A M12 bolt fit for about 3 threads so I plugged it with that. At least I don't have the hissing sound from the leaking pressure anymore.
Still be nice to know what was supposed to go there.
The dealer mechanic thought the EGR sensor may have been there on earlier models and the manifold was drilled and tapped for that and plugged since the EGR sensor is on the pipe above the manifold now and the plug fell out??

not sure about the 6.7 but on an 9.0,isl,under the egr valve are 2 similar plugs and they are plugging the drilled passages for the differential pressure sensor.you can pull the plugs and clean out the passages between the fpf and the egr valve.

I'm trying to remember I think my 2012 had a small tube off the manifold about where you are seeing that hole it went to a pressure sensor up by the themostat housing...

Just looked at my 2011. First thing my intake is unpainted aluminum, yours looks like it is painted black, is it possible it is aftermarket? My casting has a boss cast into it that looks like it in the same place as your pic, but it is neither drilled or tapped.

This is the best photo I have available today and I do not see anything like you are seeing. The EGR temp sensor is the sensor in the line coming from the other side of the engine. The intake air temp sensor would not be close to the EGR. I'm still not sure.

OP, I decided to go out today and snap some pics of the same area on my EGR valve. It looks like you needed pictures of the rear facing side of the intake horn since that's where the hole appears to be when I look at the base of your EGR valve in your previous photos. Please see attached below:

[EDIT] well taking a second look, it just looks like the previous owner "Tapped" the blank spot for some sort of sensor or something. Probably Meth/Water injection since that would be a good spot to put it. Just find a bolt and close it up. Make sure to put some sort of sealant on it like loctite or something. At least if you want meth/water injection in the future, you have a place to put it.

Wouldn't that be a good spot for a Boost pressure fitting, or is it to close to the EGR inlet? I used the hollowed out bolt you can purchase, and where the Horn is connected, you remove one of the bolts and replace it with the special bolt, as the picture below shows.

If you look at the original pic you see the hole is much closer the the egr valve. In you pic it is at the cast boss right next to the valve that is not drilled and tapped, just like my2011

Good photo, I think you are correct. Yours has a netted stud in that hole and your photo has more perspective being it is a wider angle.

Go back and look at the original pic, the hole you are referring to has a bolt holding a bracket. The hole the Op is referring to is right next to the egr valve
