Honda EU2000 question

At what power load does the Honda EU2000 kick up to maximum speed?



Most of our use is operating the TV and relatively light loads under 300 watts or so - if the Honda is capable of those lighter loads at low RPM, it would be a big plus - our Microwave and other higher draw stuff is only used occasionally...

Gary, when I plug my trailer in to my 2000, the rpm doesn't change at all. I figure the built in battery charger draws at least the 300 watts you mentioned. Turning on a small tv and my kids PS2 doesn't bring it off idle either.

I don't know about prices, but do you plan to use this to run your ac? I am looking at one, but have heard conflicting reports about what it will handle. Can they handle a 13. 5 K btu unit and a microwave? I know salesman don't always speak honestly or from real experience

My EU2000i always ran my microwave but would not run the AC in either trailer. The micro pulled it down pretty hard but it couldn't handle the AC no matter how I tried to do it. Great generator but don't rely on it for AC. As far as the eco throttle, it took a good load to pull it off the low idle.

Most owners seem to agree the 2000 will NOT run a 13. 5 amp AC - but what many RV owners don't take into account, is the ever-present current draw of the RV's inverter, and possibly the refrigerator, all running at the same time. I have wondered if the AC was run DIRECT off the generator, and maybe turn on the fan portion first, then once it gets up to speed and current draw minimized, THEN hit the AC and see if it will run...

Also keep in mind when choosing a generator which you intend to run at close to max power, that output drops off at about 3. 5% / 1000' of altitude. At 5000' the EU2000 would put out 1650 watts at best.

The Honda 2000's are SO nice. One good thing about them is that you can run two in parallel for 4000 watts, enough to run your A/C. Bad thing is you have to pay for two of them! Still, that's lighter than a 3000. If you need one, run one. Need power, run both. Still very quiet. I'm beggin for just one!

Thanks for the response. It's nice to hear real testimonials. I have heard about running parallel, might be able to swing a better deal with getting two at the same time.

I have a friend that swears by his EU 2000. It idles except when they run the microwave. In the summer he borrows a buddies 2000 and connects them in parallel to run his AC. They are really quiet and efficient.

What about the Yamaha 2800? I am going to be buying a generator soon and from what I have heard this one should be able to run my 13. 5 AC unit, anyone have any experience with it? http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/gen/ef2800i.html

That Yamaha 2800 *does* look real interesting - a bit heavier than the Honda 2000, and noise level somewhere between the Honda 2000 and my older Honda EX1000. The Yamaha should easily run my AC, and any of the other usual appliances at the same time - and still idle down when load is low...



Wonder what the best price is on the Yamaha - best I've found so far for the Honda 2000 is Mayberry's, at $899 delivered...

I LOVE my Honda EU 2000! That thing is GREAT! Got mine last summer, while a buddy took an Yamaha. Honda and Yamaha do not compare. The Yamaha is so much louder. After checking out one the others generator, buddy got rid of the new Yamaha and got himself a Honda. Does that tell you something? :-laf



Gary go with the Honda, or two if need be, you can't go wrong with it!



Oh, yeah, the Honda runs my 2. 5 Hp compressor just fine.

It *would* be nice to have an easily portable generator with enough capacity to run the generator when wilderness RVing in hotter climates - and while the single Yamaha at upper power/RPM ranges IS louder than a SINGLE Honda, it's NOT as loud or expensive as the *2* Hondas it would take to run the stuff I want to operate...

I have heard a lot of good things on the Yamaha 2800. I need to be able to run the AC and move the unit around easily, if there in another single generator option I would be interested, the Honda 3000 is too big and two small generators do not make sense to me.

The Yamaha is rated at 2500 with a max of 2800. 64 lbs is a great weight/size. Good price too. If some people have trouble starting their ACs with an EU3000 (2800 standard output/3000 max) I would be concerned that the Yamaha might be a little too small.
