Recently the ol' gals started to hop upon braking. It doesn't happen all the time and seems to be speed sensitive. It won't start hoping until braking down from 45 to 20 mph. The brake pedal doesn't pulse like the ABS is active, but twice at stop-lights, while stopped, the ABS and Brake light has come on. At two other times while stopped the brake pedal felt frozen stiff but wasn't depressed to the floor board. What do ya all think? Multi problems?

The stiff pedal sounds like the problems a couple others had with their brakes. If I remember right it was the ABS controller causing a problem. There is a needle and seat in the controller that is the problem area. It gets dirty, sticky, not sealing, etc and all kinds of weird things happen. Since the ABS light is coming on I would guess it is probably having some issues. Good luck.

Hopping?

Ok a few questions. You say it is hopping, do you mean like shaking like you have bad rotors. Or do you mean that certain wheels are locking up or grabbing more? Is it in the front rear or can you not tell. First off i would check your ABS controller as well as bleed the whole system to make sure you dont have air in lines. REMEMBER there is a bleed tip on the or near the ABS( i cant remember without going and lookin at it) and you need to bleed it there as well. Do a search and see if you can find anything on it. Im hoping someone else knows what im talking about and has their manual( mine is at the home and i am at work) and can tell you the procedure on which wheels to do in conjuction with each other. But please try to clear us exactly what is happening.

PS (Yes im working very hard cant you tell:D )

O. K. , here's more info I left out. Sorry. The hopping is coming from the front. The rotors and brakes were done front to rear about a year ago by myself. I did do the bleed per procedure. I can't feel any grabbing action it just starts a bounce'n. But the bounce is rough so I can't rule out grabbing except there is no noticeable pull to one side or the other.

Now get back to work ;)

Ok

Well as you can see im working super hard now, overwhelmed with things to do,lol. I had a big problem with mine doing the same thing, you are probabaly going to have to take them back off but when you do. Make sure you check the slides and make sure they have lube on them. Make sure that your rotors are the same thickness, may sound stupid but im telling you that if one is thicker than the other it can cause a pull been there done that. Also make sure that you check your lines to make sure one side is not collapsing. If all of that doesnt fix it then it will take someone else to give you places to start looking.

Thanks. I'll check this weekend. Seems that the left side area is the culprite. When I did the brake job I had replaced the lines also. Maybe a caliper going bad?

On my way home last night I decided that I would take the truck back to Wal-mart for a 4 tire balance and rotation. I had purchased the tires there in June so it would be a freebie:D When they took off the fronts I inspected the rotors and pads. It looked good and I had to smile at the job I did on them. (my first time) I then shook each front tire when they put them back on to see if there may be anything loose. It was solid. The only out of whack was the tires balance. They were way out and appeared to me that they weren't balanced after I bought them. The trucks ride has improved but I still get the bounce'n when brakeing from 52 - 40 mph.

So it looks as if I'll check the ABS controller needle. But I have two questions

What is it?

Where is it?

ABS

Ok it is suppose to keep your tires from fully locking up when braking. Go to your back axle and follow your brake lines from the drums they should meet somewhere up on the frame. Mine was on the driver side. you will see another drain nipple on it. If you cant find it let me know and ill have to look at mine again tonight and let you know exactly what it looks like.

JEB's right, up above the axle, drivers side rear. If I remember correctly, gravity bleed, bleed ABS valve first, then pass rear, driver rear, pass front, driver front. Somebody tell me if I'm wrong. I had a B**** of a time getting my valve bled, still think I have some air. Others have suggested (and done) replacing the valve with new, and problem goes away. I'm heading there myself.

Found it!! Thanks. Looks like my weekend to-do list is getting larger. But thats what weekends and cold beer is for. Ain't it?

I recently went thru the ABS stuff, only thing was my light never came on. I had good brakes but while sitting at a stop light the pedal would pulse down a little at a time.

I originally thought after doing a front brake job and changing everything but the power booster that it might be bad, so I changed it out and the results were just the same as before.

I then got a RWAL from NAPA and installed it and my problems went away. BE SURE AND BLEED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AS OUTLINED IN THE MANUAL. If you are trying to re-bleed your system make sure and attach the bleed hose to the RWAL first and put it in a can that is partially full of brake fluid before opening the bleed valve, you will such air into the RWAL, it took quite awhile to get all the air out.

good luck.
