I would love to mount a set of nathan k5la train horns in the bed of my dodge, throw a snap tonneau cover on top, take the tailgate off, mount a 14 gal. 200 psi max. air tank in the bed, have the horns pointing staight out back, but tucked way up towards the front, kinda like a cannon effect, then on a nice hot summer day take a drive to historic downtown stillwater mn, let 'em go in downtown and see what kind of trouble i can get in.

A TDR member has a train horn set-up w/ one of those big Oxygen/ Acyetelene type tanks pressuring it w/ the big valve to operate it. There are pictures floating around here somewhere. :-laf

A decent air horn is good enough for any situation, I don't understand why anybody want's to make a fool of themselves and risk possible lawsuits or fines by running train horns which are dangerous for road use, they can rupture ear drums at close range.

WHAT? Did you say something? :-laf

I had some cheap Ebay train horns on my F-350... but on my Dodge, I had a Grover Emergency horn... . you know, the ones that the fire trucks use. Ya. . I liked it better but I needed to sell for some extra cash. It was fun while it lasted...

The following is a list of DECIBEL INTENSITIES taken from Encarta 2005.

0-Threshold of hearing

10-rustle of leaves, a quiet whisper

20-average whisper

20-50-quiet conversation

40-45-hotel, theater between performances

50-65-loud conversation

65-70-traffic on a busy street

65-90-train

75-80-factory noise( light/medium work)

90-heavy traffic

90-100-thunder

110-140-jet aircraft at takeoff

130-threshold of pain

140-190-space rocket on takeoff

I hope that this helps.

I still think watching a 8000 HP top fuel dragster is louder than anything on the list. You must cover your ears. It's like a low pitched drone that goes right through you. Pitch gets lower at the car speeds up. Unreal!

I don't know, a space shuttle taking off would be crazy loud...

Grover Fire Truck horn with the "Stutter Tone?" All the purist firetruck guys say you MUST have a Grover Stutter Tone horn on a Fire Truck. No electronic gadget can replace it. By chance, is your Dodge painted Red? :D

I have been looking on eBay. There is a set of horns that interest me. Never really had much desire for them until a few days ago. A young lady, totally engrossed in her cell phone conversation, marched off the sidewalk to cross the intersection. A couple of us had the green light but had to stop for her. She never even looked up.

I think a good set of horns would have been nice, especially if it could be accompanied by a recording of a log truck with the Jake Brake full on.

It's called "natural selection". Should of run her over. Darwin would of been proud. :)

I've lunged forward on a few people in my time that have done that. Or KNOWINGLY start to cross a 10 lane road when it's going to turn red for the cross walk and green for the cars crossing their path.

Wish I had a train horn today. I live right off Exit 99 I-65, Greenwood, IN. I come in from the South, and all the Indy traffic from the North screws up the intersection. Seems a good percentage of these morons don't understand the concept of not blocking an intersection. If you can't clear it, don't get in it. Anyway, after a nice relaxing 30 minute drive up the back roads, I get this crap. Most were keeping the center and right lanes clear, but 90 percent of the traffic is trying to get into the right turn lane into Sheek Rd. which is 1/4 mile down the road, and it's usually backed up by the time the Main St. light goes green. I'm on Main and for the most part, people are waiting for a spot in the left lane before they exit the ramp off I-65. This LAST idiot in an old Caravan just has to pull out with no place to go but the center lane. #@$%! When it turned green, I pulled right up to her and let her have it, full blast. She really didn't have any place to go, but I let her have it anyway, twice. The things we have to do. :-laf No, it did NOT make me feel better.

PD needs to put a patrol officer out there once in a while and put up a "here's your sign" sign "Do Not Block Intersection. "

Update!

70% complete with the install of the horn kit I ordered. Just gota mount the horns, route the air hose, and run a wire though the firewall for the valve and drill a hole for the button.

Air tank location is inside frame rails between the gas tank and the transfer case. Hope I don't have a real job in front of me when I do get around to replacing the intake pump with an airdog. 4 holes drilled and tapped with lock washers and stainless bolts

Horn location. Under the bed, passenger side. VERY CORNER pointed backward sitting in between the frame and the bed site on the out side of the frame. It's almost like these were made to fit there. ZERO clearance issues. The spot to drill in the bed is perfectly flat, no ridges. I have some washers and stainless lag bolts ready to do the quick bolt on.

The valve was installed on the exit of the tank. So one less cut of hose. I had to buy a 1/2 NTP male <-> male fitting.

It's late and the girl wants to go out to night. Figured testing hte horn at midnight would be a BAD idea... ... :-laf:-laf:-laf So I'm leaving that for Sunday.

I'll try to get pictures of the install next week.
