Are you referring to an electric fan, or the electric clutched belt driven fan that was offered for the 2nd. generation trucks?

Replacement for the stock fan and fan clutch. But, if there is a direct bolt on replacement that is belt driven that would also interest me. Thanks.

A new OEM fan is your best option. The Horton was $750 about 12 years ago. It was either on or off, it didn't have the speed modulation that the third generation fan does.

The Horton fans for Dodges were discontinued in about 2002 and they never made them for third gens. Flex-a-lite makes a twin electric fan foe our trucks but it is only good for 18000 CGVWR, which rules out a lot of us. The factory one seems to work best. Shad

Third Gen Turbo Diesels use right hand threads for the clutch hub whereas Second Generation used left hand threads. The factory electrically controlled clutch works great (until it fails; then you buy another one). The Horton was sold as improving power and mileage, as well as having total and positive engagement. It was very loud when engaged, of course. I once dyno tested my 1997 with the stock fan and no fan at the 600 HP level and the difference was only 4 HP. Therefore, I don't see how the Horton or similar fan could do much for mileage or power. I recently had to replace my fan clutch on my 2004, and went with another stock unit.

Thanks all. I had my fan clutch go out at 98,000 miles, the first repair of anything on the truck. I replaced it with another OEM clutch, about $400 and it seems to be working just right. I was not looking for better mileage or power loss isues, just to keep the cooling good when towing.
