My Brakes have been getting hot, even to the point of smoking since I bought the truck 5 years ago. Over time I have changed the rotors twice pads three times, flushed the system, adjust the rears often and just replaced the calipers. I pull 9000 pounds in stop and go traffic and the trailer has brakes on all four axles. The petal is hard sometimes. I am frustrated. When I pull with a F 250 this does not happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There's a TSB for elimination of the brake proportioning valve on these trucks. After performing this change,I finally felt like I had brakes. Other guys have installed one-ton cylinders from Chevy. I installed one-ton Dodge cylinders and felt no difference. The Chevy's might be your first move. The EGR setup I have works well but mucho buckeroos!

Sounds like sticky caliper bolts to me?

Keep an eye on your caliper bolts.

They need to be well lubed.

At one point I WAS lubing mine every 2000 miles. . :(

Pull one of your caliper bolts out and see if the metal bushing is well coated with lube.

If it's sticky and dry... you found your problem. :eek:

If you get tired of lubing your caliper pins all the time. Send me a PM.

I've been working on my brake problems on my 97 since 1997... :{

Keep us posted on your finding's.

Thanks for the reply I just replaced the calipers three weeks ago and they only have a few hundred miles on them but are smoking. The bolts are new and still look good.

Front brake lines?

I forgot to mention...

I did replace my front brake lines...

Apparently the rubber breakes down and can cause the fliud pressure to build up in the calipers.

I think EGR sells the stainless type.

They were not availible when I did mine or thats what I would have. .

Keeep us POSTED :)
