Got about 18,000 miles on my truck, but noticed
this habit of it since I've had it: After running
on the freeway for say a few hours, then stop at a
roadside quickmart, stop the engine, pop inside
for less than 5 minutes, crank the truck and it
doesn't fire right up.
Usually takes at least two extended cranks (~2
secs each). The truck usually fires up instantly
every morning, almost like just a couple of turns
on the motor at most.
When I stop off for an extended stop, like to eat
lunch or something, it seems to fire back up OK.
I also usually don't kill the motor when I refuel,
partly to avoid dealing with the restart hesitation.
Doesn't sound like a serious thing, an annoyance
at best that can be worked around, just wondering
if there is something to this or should I let the
motor idle longer before I shut it down? I know
my Case tractor says to idle it before shutdown to
cool the turbo, but I sometimes forget, shut it
down, hop out to clean the plow, get back in and
it cranks right back OK.
