2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission What should I ask for it?

Hi All,

Only when driving around town (stop and go, or sustained mph less than 35), the transmission temperature regularly gets to 210. If I can maintain 40 mph or better it doesn't get that hot. Is that normal, or should I be looking at something.

Thanks.

Completely normal...

Low speed in town driving yields a non lock up for the torque converter which will increase transmission temps (especially if you take the temp at the hot line coming out of the torque converter. Higher speeds the torque converter locks up (no more hot fluid coupling) and the temperatures fall dramatically.

Is that output line temps? If pan that is not good. Stop and go traffic will raise my output line temps, however it is hard to get pan to raise much. BTW, I have two sensors with a switch to the gauge.

The temp is measured at the output line. I guess it sounds normal to get that hot when not moving very fast. I have also learned to pop it into neutral if I know I'll be at a light very long.

I agree with Road Dog about turning the overdrive off when in stop and go traffic. Something else you might want to invest in is a Mag-Hytec Double Deep Transmission Pan. I have one and I have seen my transmission rise above 175-180 only twice in the 5 yrs I have had it on the truck.
