From Spokane to Reno...



Buddy of mine just bought three Jeep FC 170 DRWs in Spokane and will need to go get them. We're wondering if it would be cheaper to go get 'em ourselves or have 'em hauled. Google says it looks to be about 750-800 miles (one way). My conservative estimate says it would cost us about $1000 just for fuel for our two trucks round trip.



They have no beds which will save on weight and there may be a few additional parts to go with 'em. I don't think they weigh more than 3500-4000# each. I have no idea if you could fit three on a trailer. If you're unfamiliar with FC's:

Any idea how long they are. . end of bumper to end of bumper? Did not see it in the specs.

I dunno. My guess would be 12-13 ft. I'm just adding 3 ft. to the wheelbase. The owner said they could be stacked pretty easily if need be.

I would attempt to haul them. If it was me I would put one faced forward and the next one faced backwards and then stack the third on top of the chassis' of the first two. Loading and unloading may be an issue though. I would say if you have a 32 foot or longer gooseneck to find out if the seller knows of a forklift big enough to load the third one for you.

Got the specs: 14. 5 ft. bumper to bumper. Looks like it may be cheaper for us to haul 'em ourselves. There are additional parts coming with them.

Let me guess..... someone that has operating authority, pays upwards of $1000 a month for insurance, and is subject to DOT and HP BS at any given moment, and all the other fun "stuff" that goes along with being a "service provider", not to mention the small fortune we have wrapped up in our equipment, is supposed to go out and fetch these for fuel only... or less?

Huh? What? Get your panties out of a bunch. That's not what I was saying at all. Yeah, I asked for a quote. And yeah, me and all my common sense seem to think that you could do it for cheaper than the cost of fuel... Did you see me say that anywhere?



There are three trucks, each 14. 5 ft. long, all in about the same state of disrepair, and I've since learned there may be additional parts which would in fact necessitate two loads. Those facts, combined with some economic figuring, time, and ease of the drive, are making us lean towards going to get them ourselves.



I was looking for an estimate. I wasn't knocking you or your "service provider" industry. Of course it's going to cost more than fuel. I don't know where you got the impression I thought it wouldn't. Thanks anyway.

Since you have two trucks, I would say that you could load two on a flatbed trailer and flat tow the other (might require removing the driveshaft). It is 793 miles according to my PC miler, some of which is 2 lane. Be advised that fuel is cheaper in Post Falls, Id than Spokane. The few extra miles to the Flying J is worth your time. Take a good look at weather before you go, it sucks right now.

Thanks for the tips. The Flying J will work out well since the trucks are out in Spokane Valley. I know what you mean about the weather... It's been a bit nasty.
