How About A New Forum For "Cummins" Conversions

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

A conversion forum would certainly get my morning reading attention.

I loose sleep at night thinking of ways of installing CTD's in Old Grand Wagoneers, vintage Land Rovers, Unimogs & PW's.

Hey admins...

How many interested members would it take to justify a new forum? This thread is six months old and has 40 replies with very few doubles. Not flaming y'all or anything, just curious.

Maybe a lost cause......

Well, I guess there just aren't enough mechanically inclined TDR members who are lunatic enough to try and do something so involved. I, for one, would do another one ( if I ever finish the one I'm doing now  ). Is just not the majority's bag, I reckon... ... . Bummer, woulda been a lotta fun

Lost cause

Yup, If DC can't figger out how to make a buck on it, it sure will be a "lost cause"!!

I dont know much about computers, but is it really a big deal to add one more Forum? especailly one that would be useful to Non Dodge owners. Just think of all the Ford and Chevy heads who will come here and probably join just to get help and info on swapping REAL diesels into fake trucks?

Count me in, toying with idea of a Cummins in a "88" - "99" Chev or GMC 4x4. Truck is lower than these RAMs, Superduties and new Silverados.

A suggestion........

Hey guys, how about we "take over" the roundtable forum. It looks to me that if we were to start posting out conversion topics in one place, it might give the admins the proof that one is needed. As it is now, you have to search through all the different forums to gather the info you need. There is a lot of conversion info out there, it just doesn't seem so because it is so widely scattered. Or how bout this, Admins. You put up a new forum called conversions and such, if it doesn't generate the kind of traffic you think it should, you can snuff it, and we'll quit bugging you about it... ... fair enough? :D

"Taking over" the Roundtable will just result in threads being locked or removed. This site does not operate via anarchy or revolution.

In 6 months, less than 30 people have expressed an interested in such a forum. Out of thousands of board members, I don't think its enough to justify a new forum. Remember, the title is "The Number One Resource For Dodge/Cummins Turbo Diesel Owners", not "The Number One Resource For Cummins Turbo Diesel Owners".

Ouch, Admin

I was really just seeing if you guys were keeping up with us... I wouldn't make a good dicktater anyway. The point I was trying to make is that there is a lot of conversion info scattered in these forums. if it were to be placed in one area, it probably wouldn't be overwhelming by any means, but would be a very good reference for those of us who are into these types of things. As far as DODGE /Cummins Turbo Diesel Owners is concerned, I am both. My 85 Dodge crewcab didn't come from the factory with a Cummins, but it should have. With the help I have recieved from the TDR forums, it will have one in it pretty quick. I feel it is a shame the TDR would lock out anybody who does not own a Dodge. Response to this thread would probably have been much higher if Non-members would have been able to respond or even see it, but as you already know, the roundtable forum is only viewable to members. In any event, I mean no hard feelings. I appreciate that you do notice us, even if we don't get what we are asking for. The TDR is an unequaled source of information for Cummins owners of all breeds. We were just trying to make it even better... ... ... .....

Ken,

Until Dodge finds it in thier heart to build a Crew Cab again(which I am told is coming in the 2003 model W/Cummins) or a 4 door ramcharger, alot of folks are going to do conversions of one type or another who want a Cummins. Granted the following for the conversions forum could be much better, but there is a need to have this type of information stored in one place. After all some of us like not having a truck payment equal to our house payment, that is why building your own truck is prefered by some. The only truck built today that fits my needs is a Ford Crew Cab. I personlly would not be found dead in a Ford, and I have been driving Chrysler products long before it was cool:cool: This is why I have spent over $12,000 on my truck and joined TDR. As Hutchew has noted, TDR might even get a few more members out of the deal :D

I'm working on this - it should be here soon. I had brought it up in the past back when this was first posted and it was decided not to do it at that time. With all the response here and seeing a number of conversions that have been posted, etc I brought it up again. I just have a couple of details to work out and it'll go on Ken's to do list (which may be very long right now with the server move so it may take a few days).

Hey CrewCab, can you remember any details when you were converting the transfer case from a 23 spline input to a 29 ?

I'm doing a dodge to chevy 205 conversion and want to do the minimal amount of machining. . the chevy 205's came in several versions some with the larger input bearing, so any light on this will be most helpful

thanks

I agree with you Kyle, I am going to be building my 85 Crewcab D350 sometime early next year as I have had a little setback with available funds, need to finish paying off the wedding and a sewer problem, and with the overtime they are dangling infront of me till March I will just take the money and figure on what I am going to do.

So far its looking like I will just take apart my 93 Clubcab and use all the parts in the Crew, seems a real shame due to the fact I bought the truck brand new in June 93 and only have 96k onb the clock and am presently getting 21 mpg with a 5 speed and 3. 08's.

I will go with Auto with the crew, and stay with the 3. 08's.

This will mean I have had all types made, Crewcab, clubcab, standard and Ramcharger, all with the Cummins.

Take care.

Cummins 8.3 Ford MD Hummer Body

This has been my dream truck for the last 7 years. It started with a trip to North Dakota to buy a Hummer Kit to go on a Chevy frame with a Cummins 5. 9. Now an 8. 3 Cummins in a Medium Duty Ford frame with the Hummer Kit w/ big-boy axles and trans. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I THINK I HAVE STARTED A FIRE STORM: When asked to be the moderator of this forum, after I had accepted the position I asked that the forum be expanded to read Cummins/Diesel Conversions. Cummins is a great engine and is my favorite BUT, it is not the only diesel engine in the world.

We stand at a point in time where diesel technology in blowing our minds! It appeared that the "Conversion" forum was wanning a bit. Soooo, I thought that we could interject some other engines into the flow of the forum.

The part I don't understand is where did it get missed that the name of this forum IS the Cummins/Diesel "CONVERSION" Forum. If interjecting the word diesel in the name threw folks off track then I will remove it.

THIS IS THE CONVERSION FORUM... ... ... .....

I am a conversion nut!... ... ... ... ... . any questions?

I think I got lost somewhere.....

Barry, first off, thanks for moderating us nutcases. I don't guess I know what you are trying to get across to us, though. Maybe what you oughta name this is the "Diesel Conversion Forums", ya think? I have been hanging out here since the beginning (see my anarchist posts above:D ), and I think there has been quite a few posts about sticking all kinds of diesels into all kinds of vehicles. The only diesels you won't see much of is the Chevs and Fords, which in my opinion do not lend themselves to easy conversions. The thing is, most people here are into the cummins, that's why they are here. I am fairly sure there are other forums for the other motors, if people are so inclined. JMO.

My next one (I am a gluton for punishment, and a POW) will be a 4bt in my 70 Bronco, so I have been paying attention to the scout/4bt posts. I truly agree with you about the technology of todays diesels. The Duramax that smoked my stroker up in Farmington last week was pretty awesome. I might even consider owning a Chev, if they ever put a real suspension under the front of their 4X's.

Thanks again for spending your time with us here, Barry. I don't think you started a firestorm, though.

Barry don't sweat it, when I suggested this forum it was not just for one purpose, transplanting a Cummins, I was thinking more along the line of a group of guys(and ladies) who doesn't want to drive a mass marketed, mass produced truck, car or whatever. But instead building their own mode of transportation, and swapping ideas, and helping others when they need suggestions. After all isn't one of the main ideas behind TDR ?

One of the main things that I miss since I sold my crew cab, is when I drive down the road, the truck turned heads. I am now driving 2001 3500 Quad cab, nothing special there, just another 2nd gen ram going down the road. :( . But will change next spring(hopefully).

Kyle

I thought you were just a lurker now....

:) LOL. Crewcab, what did you take for your truck, if you don't mind me asking? I am thinking about selling mine and getting a 60 series detroit and stuffing it into a Suzuki Samari with an Allison transmission, dual atlas transfer cases, and 2 1/2 ton rockwell axles. :--)

No I will keep hanging around, after all the 1st gen was my first Cummins truck. And I think I might still be usefull in the conversions forum ;) . As for the price, well didn't get as much as I wanted to but it will do(you will have to ask the guy who bought it for the price).

Kyle

In the fall of 79 I ordered a new '80 model Scout Traveler with the Nissan 6cyl. TD and 4wd. We drove that thing until the late 80s and never had any problems and got 20 mpg everywhere we went. Image what they could do today with electronics on that little engine... ... ... ... ... ... ... .
