Off Road Fuel

I have a friend who worked at a Dodge dealer just north of Indianapolis. A few years ago a guy brought his CTD in for service. They found red dye in the fuel and had to report him. Seems he woked at the school bus garage and was helping himself to the fuel for the buses. Had the dealer not reported him they would have been subject to fines as well. So your friend may be in trouble if he ever needs his truck serviced.

What if you filled up with diesel and drove in the ditch everywhere you went. as long as you arent on the highway its not illegal

That's what I thought. Another advantage to driving in the ditch is you won't have to register it in many states.

The federal law is written so that if the vehicle is registered for onroad use it must use taxed fuel even if it's only used offroad. Don't think it's very likely you'd get caught though if you only drove offroad.

You may have something there!

Anyone know if there's road tax on Avgas? The high price seems to indicate there must be some sort of tax, air tax?

No road tax on Avgas, but it is 100 octane. There may be other taxes that I'm not aware of though. Jet-A does not have red dye as far as I know, but the problem is, it cost more than #2 including the taxes.

I had that bumper sticker on my old gas truck! :) It read a little different though- Don't steal, the government hates competition.

You're right a 2% mix of biodiesel will be required in Minn starting in '05, Iowa and Kansas have passed similar laws, the rest of the country isn't far behind.

Besides being better for the air it's better for your engine, farmers and our trade deficit.

100% biodiesel will never see widespread use, 2% seems to work great but won't increase the price by 20¢.

Don't think Paul was telling the rest of the story...

Go here for whole story on bio and see a list of states that have pending intiatives to require 2% http://forums.biodieselnow.com/default.asp

I'm waiting for the price to drop.

The difference between pump and red here is only about . 20 right now. $1. 35 Vs $1. 15

When it drops... I'll be placing an order. If it was a buck (like it should be) I'd be ruinning it right now.

I dont know why it's still this expensive here. I used to live up north NJ, and it's a buck there right now.

I guess they charge it because they know they can get away with it.

I live about 1/2 way between the refineries up north jersey, and Eagle Point refinery down south Jersey.

Go figger... . :D

I've been getting it from oildirect.com . Theyre about the cheapest here.

Captive audience I guess. I wish I had a couple of 500 gallon tanks to fill so I would be ready for next winter with the house. Maybe another 500 gallon tank for highway for the truck while I am at it.

TDI new beetles are not marked with a TDI emblem, only way to tell a TDI new beetle from a gasser if it is not running is to look at the tiny tach in the speedo, redline is at 4500 instead of close to 7000

Where do the school buses drive? In the ditch? If they are using off road, then that is a perfect example of government excluding itself from it's own rules.

Government entities run untaxed fuel to save paperwork, sort of silly to pay the tax with money collected from taxes. Sort of like going though a bunch of red tape to take money out of one pocket and put it in the other.

I work for the State of Montana, state diesel vehicles can either run red or run taxed fuel and do the paper work to get the tax money back. It saves taxpayer money eliminating the paperwork.

BTW, still have to do the paperwork on gasoline since there isn't an untaxed grade, but we do get all the paid taxes back.

I've been to the dealer with red, and nobody ever asked a question.

I think 95% of the people here would just think it's conditioner or something.

Can you say tax exempt . Cities , state's , counties , school districts and other municipalities are tax exempt. That means they don't have to pay taxes .
