How did DC 'detune' my Y2K ISB 24V to 215HP?
Timing? ECM? Different injectors? or how?

I'm pretty sure it's injectors and maybe a little timing. Reason I say that is because auto and stick trucks that have had the had same injectors installed show they achieve pretty much the same power. I have seen both auto and stick ETC trucks that had 275 injectors run on the dyno and get the same power level (240hp).

At the next Dyno Days there will be two ETC trucks, one auto and one stick, and both have the same DD III's installed. I would like to see if the power comes out the same.

alot of the power difference is also in the fueling. DC has significantly reduced the amount of fuel injected by the pump timing and injector size.

Fueling and timing. It appears to be an EPA issue. Stock ISBs are putting out close to 300 hp in applications where emissions are not a concern.

MikeR is right about the injectors. The 98-00 autos had smaller injectors than the 5spd. The 01 autos have the same injectors that the 5spd does. I don't know about the other differences.

Then it would seem that a "box" is the overall best bang-for-the-buck upgrade for the autos and 5 speeds.

Hey Joe, The H. O. gets more hp/torque in the following ways Higher compression pistons with a different shape bowl, Uprated pump/timing, hx35 turbo and I think different injectors. Fritz ram site has the details

The 215,235,&245 hp engine use same injectors, trust me on that.
the 215,235hp are the same engine. only different diff is there are 3 different ecm part #s. the calibration in the ecm determines hp, torque rating, (timing, fueling)
the 245 uses different piston (bowl) vp fuel pump. (timeing, fueling)
235 rating can go in to 215 engine.
can not put 245 rating in a 235.
the 245 rating uses different wires locations for monitor sensors. will set ck eng lite and code 115, no signal at pin 17 of ecm hope this helps

C1, just out of curiousity, how did they change the bowl, raising compression . 5, but use the same injector on the ETH?... T

ynott, im not sure of the bowl design change. I have not seen one yet. There is a list in the calibration that show which injectors are used, and all three hp engine use same injector. the injection pressures are control via the fuel pump,& ecm calibration.
for duration of fuel injection, time of injection,& amount of fuel. This is also change by adding a aftermartket box, ( VA, POWER EDGE, ECT... ). but the 245 does use a different fuel pump.

C1, Gotta another question for you. Dodge sells an uprate module for the 98. 5 and newer 24v turbo diesels that boost torque to 505. It dosen't give HP improvements, but the torque is coincidentally the same as the ETH. Is this different then the uprate you quote in the previous posts? I know that Dodge charges around $900 for the module, and that better oomph can be had with other mods, but just curious. besides, it's not for me since I already have an ETH

C1B1,
If the 215,235 and 245 use the same injector with different ECM calibrations, then why is it when we(NW BOMBers) install injectors on both auto and stick (no ECM recalibrations) and dyno the trucks, both auto and stick trucks reach the same power level(240hp)? If the original injectors are the same, then the end result after an injector swap should still have the stick truck with about 20 more horsepower than the auto.

This is all very confusing. First of all, why do they call them 275 injectors if you only get 240hp w/them. With the addition of a black box or nominal cpc upgrade of approx. 60hp which is suppose to change fueling and timing, how does this all figure up. In my case, I've added a BD plug-power(60 added hp), t/c (an other 50hp supposedly), v/b(to put it to ground) and it sure don't "feel" like I've added 110hp to a 215hp engine. Now I'm considering a Pressureloc and Torkloc. I'm just wondering if I throwing good money after bad and if any of you share my fellings? These add ons are suppose to be x-potential aren't they?

Arar, if some one sold you a torque convertor and told you it would add 50 horsepower they are absolutely full of it or you mis-understood them. You have added about 40-45 horsepower peak to the rear wheels, that is all. The 60 horsepower gain is at 2000 RPM. The other transmission mods you mentioned will not add power. If you want more power switch to a more aggressive box or add some injectors.

I understand the injection pump is different on the ETH. I'm wondering which injection pump Cummins runs on their higher horse power applications of the ISB compared to the 215 and 235 Ram ISB.
I've read that fueling boxes can be hard on the injection pump. Is this only until the factory lift pump is replaced or upgraded?
