Sure you can. Just because you have a dually doesn't mean that you have to settle for the stock look.

Weld and Alcoa make great looking aftermarket wheels,as wide as you want them. You can run a wide variety of sizes: Super Swamper has Q78x16,9. 50x34,13x36&13x38 if you like an agressive tire. BFGoodrich makes some taller sizes to accomodate duallies, alot of them do not get advertised because of demand.

Your only limit is how much you want to space your rears apart. Spacers are very common in the dually world and any tire dealer can get them. If you want to see some Xtreme duallies go to, http://www.siblingrivalry.com

I met these guys at the 4 wheel jamboree in Bloomsburg,Pa. last year.

I have Denman Coyote LT305/85R16`s ( notice the 85 series, not 75) on my truck now. They are about 36" tall X 9. 5" wide. They fit on the stock wheels ok, but really could use a wider wheel. Only a load range C. A 6 ply tire. Not a real tough tire. Put leveling springs on the front. Tires have not rubbed or hit the body yet. The tires tend to drift and wander. Its kind of a trade off to fill up the wheel wells.

All these pictures of your trucks with the 285's makes it even harder for me as I would like to put bigger tires and some alloy wheels on my truck to help finish it off in fact I just brought my wife in to look at the pictures #ad
. Anyway how is your guy's with the 3. 54's performance, did it affect taking off from a stop and how about pulling? I have the factory painted steel whells and need some fancy wheels #ad

I've run on 235/85/16's on every 2500 i've owned. They give the extera clearance I need without much sidewall flex. I pull a 30'x6. 5 stock trailer (fully loaded gross weight over 30k) and the 235's replace the 7. 50-16's that come on most trailers(slightly taller but 10 ply). My preferance is the Michelin XPS TRACTION( steel belted sidewalls).

p. s. it's not in the sig but i currently have 285/75/16 on Centerline wheels. i think the 19's are the way to go. anyone wanna reserve the centerlines? #ad

I have the BF GOODRICH 295/75R/16 mud and snow tread on the factory chrome wheels. They fit and look great. Almost fill the wheel wells up.

I did the 235x85's. They fill up the wheel wells a bunch more. 243 is right. It's a bf truck with skinny tires, but they tow great & work excellent on the ice & snow. I think they will work ok on the Mickey Thompson Challengers, 8" wide. 235mm = 9. 59", so the Challengers should work & will pooch them out some.

As for filling up the wheel wells more - lowering. The friggin kids down @ the different 4WD shops got to be laughing at the old fuddy-duddy. Those guys are in the business of raising & here I want to lower an inch or so. I understand the 2500 series with the 360 engine uses shorter blocks between the rear springs & axels. Now you've got to do the front. I don't know if cutting down the springs is that great an idea. I'd like to find the same heavy duty frong coils, but 1" or so shorter & just swap. I think all of the clearances are ok. Anyone checked?

I was considering running 285/75-16's but the dealer said that the spedo runs off the abs sensor in the rear diff on my 99' and can only be recalabrated to work with a 265/75 at the most. Is there any way to recalabrate the spedo. what does everyone else do?

On a 12 valver you change the speedo drive gear in the transfer case. 1 tooth per 4% change. About a $7. part.
A whole lot easier and cheaper than those Abbot pulse correction boxes the overvalved have to use.

DC made the change with the '98 model year. My valve-challenged '98 uses the RWAL sensor as the VSS.

Whoops.

Ijust got my 2001 in last week & had the dealer swap the stock tire for BF295/75,s & they look & handle great. Unfortunately the spare295 does not fit underneath , well it does but It touches the exhaust!I am going to have to drop the pipe & fabricate the brackets to move the pipe over 2" & make a heat shield for the tire, wot a hassle. Its either that or do what Steve did & leave the stock tire underneath & play musical tires if i have a flat in the back.
The dealer recalibrated my speedo to the max setting & said it will only be off 2 or 3mph.

Well I went out today and bought some tires. I compared the 285/75's and 255/85's and picked the 255/85's for a couple reasons. They have better deep snow traction, which is what I live in five months out of the year, and they have a lower rolling resistance, meaning better fuel economy(in theory). Plus they are slighty taller than the 285/75's, and the taller the better. I am very happy with the looks #ad
It is exactly what I wanted - the truck ALMOST looks like it has a lift. Raised white letters and aggressive tread look SHARP! #ad
For Flatlander and others with a concern about the performance, I don't notice any difference other than that first gear is now usable - the larger tire took away the coffee spilling jerkiness that made it useless to me. It might seem slower if it wasn't BOMBed, I don't know, but I'm sure you'll be fine with the 280 plate. Overall very happy! #ad

A while back some were talking about a Michelin tire that was taller/wider. . fit the factory chrome rims. . and was an 8-9 ply COMERCIAL GRADE...

It was said that they could be ordered through COSTCO. . or SAM'S Club...

I still have the stock 245 Michelins on the beast. . and they now have 40,000 miles on them. . I would say they are about 1/2 gone. .

NO BS. . THEY LOOK GREAT. . LOTS OF TREAD LEFT. . (I do rotate every 10,000)

What were those comercial tires and do they fill up those wells... ??

What about sidewall flex???

Sidewall flex has gotten me to return at least 4 sets of tires in other vehicles I've owned...

Excessive flex makes me feel like I could loose control too easily.

I'm PRIMARILY on the road... but we do get snow here. . and I didn't buy 4WD just because it looks cool. . ( It Does).

My off roading is limited to muddy. . slimy dirt roads... (Always making sure there is a botttom before CHARGING IN!!!!)

A SIMPLE BROOM HANDLE HAS SAVED ME $$$$ IN TOWING BILLS!!

But I digress... #ad

Thanks in advance
Larry

Articat, I was just wondering if the tires that your rig came with, were 265's. All of the new trucks at my local dealership have the 265's on them.

I chose to run a much bigger tire for 3 reasons.

1) They obviously look better.

2) I run less rpm's at hwy. speeds and I haven't noticed any power loss on take off because I own a Cummins (Unlike brand F).

3) The Dana 80 can seriously hinder off-road performance (ground clearance) with smaller tires because of its size.

contact the guys at Rickson- my 19. 5's with the Goodyear Unisteels ride real nice, don't have the cornering flex that a small-steel/fat-rubber combo might give you. No, the spare won't fit without rubbing the stock exhaust---(had it shortened-see signature) Now the spare fits, too. If the Unisteels (a HD highway/transport type tread style) aren't what you want, they've got some more off-roady treaded tires to fit the big wheels.

My truck came with the 245/75's. The new ones are about 4" bigger than that, and my ground clearance is 2" more #ad
I know what you mean about the brand F diesel - VERY easy to stall out if you are used to the almost impossible to stall Cummins.
I looked at the 19. 5's, and they appeared to be the perfect solution, until I saw the price tag. IF I could afford to spend that kind of $$$ on the truck, I would sink it into more hp #ad
