After my injector pump was rebuilt, I now have to press down the fuel pedal to start my truck. I never had to do this before the rebuild. Is there an adjustment on the injector pump to automatically get it more fuel on start up with having to step on the go pedal?

How is your idle? Sometimes a slow idle adjustment will make it start this way. I usuall have my diesels idle a little fast anyway. They idle a bit warmer and start a whole lot better.

Does it do it after recently being run or just after sitting overnight? Or both?

I'd start checking for wet spots on fuel hoses and connections. Both feed and return. This would indicate a possible air leak allowing aerated fuel into the pump. One symptom of air in the pump is harder starting.

It does it all the time, definately not the same as air in the system. I'm 80% sure there's an adjustment, maybe on the AFC housing, to give the engine a bigger shot of fuel when you start it, I just don't know where the screw is or how much to turn it.

By putting your foot to the floor before starting, it will reset the rack for more fuel at startup. That is probably what is happening to you after the pump tweak. They probably adjusted rack travel so it was not the same as before. Try readjusting the rack height by going to Piers website and accessing the instructions.

I actually already did that. It was five full turns low, I now have it right on the nose of my TST #6 plate. The start issue was unaffected by this adjustment.

Mr Dee

Maybe you could give us a more detailed description of the problem and what you have tried. This way we won't be playing 20 questions and keep guessing at stuff you have already done.

Thanks,

Larry

Sure, again; I had a well documented (on this forum) problem of low power that turned out to be dealer sabotage. But in the process, I had the injector pump rebuilt, new lift pump, fuel filter, checked and rechecked the TST cam and it's position in the AFC housing, adjusted the govenor to hit right on the nose of the cam plate, verified my AFC diaphram was good, unhooked the vacuum line to the waste gate for more turbo boost. The starting issue is only that I now have to step on the accelerator pedal when I start the truck, as opposed to never having to do that before the injector pump rebuild. Pre rebuild... . starts by just hitting the key, post rebuild, cranks for 3-5 seconds without giving some pedal. I've had air in the fuel line before so I am familiar with those symptoms, this isn't anything like that.

Mr Dee,

You could try turning the no-load fuel delivery screw in a little bit. It's the set screw that is on the rear of the afc housing. There was a tamper proof cover on it at one time. The lock nut is a 10mm. The set screw has an allen head. When you installed the AFC spring kit, you just turned the screw in so it was just touching the diaphram.

If its still in that position, the truck would feel flat at the low rpms. You said you have good power, so this might not help any.
