Question On My New 5" Exhaust

There sure does not seem to be too many people whining about stock 48re trannys compared to the 2nd generation version. My boss bought an 07 3/4 ton with a hemi and it felt pretty strong. Makes me wonder what the Cummins would of been likeOo. Just want to here your experiences. It seems that dodge has had the best truck on the road for the past 5 to 6 years.

Bought my 03 with 131K and now have 148K. Have towed a 26ft trlr with no problems... I like it better than the auto in the caravan... . I do want to have a temp gauge though to see if I am doing any damage while towing.

It does look like they are very reliable. Chrysler made all of the upgrades and finally did something about that torque converter back in 03 or so. The TC is still inefficient but at least it holds up. I also think with HPCR they are able to do torque management to keep the loads off at the right times to save the trans. Most likely why you cant do power brake burnouts.

Far fewer issues than my ford work truck or my buddies duramax with the "REAL" transmission. The allison has been replaced twice behind a stock duramax and mine is still kicking with a couple of mods, plowing and some silly towing jobs. I keep thinking it will die like my old 47re did but it is solid. Oh, by the way, my 47re made it 137,000 miles and only died because I was stupid and towed a slide in camper(2700 lbs) and an enclosed 26' enclosed car hauler full of snowmobiles up a 7% grade in overdrive. I still kept that Jeep Wrangler pulling a small trailer from passing me though!:-laf

The 48RE does seem to be better than the former ones but still not perfect. Only have 31,000 miles on this but with mostly hauling a 27' 5vr. most the time. Also equipped with a BD exhaust brake with the tow-loc & pressure-loc for most efficient towing. Performs great up till now.

T/C weak. Doesn't seem to like power adders with big tires. I have 35,000 towing 6-9k for half those miles everyday. Starting to slip with jr. on #1 only. Will upgrade to a full Billit Gorend when i get my refund. I have a lead foot BTW so take what i say with a grain of salt. I had an 03 6. 0 Ford with the torqshift (i know I know but it was so pretty)and blew it up at 14k. They said it was the first catastrophic failure they had back then. I think they all suck stock if you are going to beat on them. Get a stick or by a built one or be nice to it.

My 48 is working as designed, not a problem yet with 26k miles on it.

I'm saving my pennies for a trip over to Reb's!

Browns Diesel builds a great Goerend trans!

on my 04. 5 when i had it with only 30k miles on replaced stock transmission 4 times#@$%! then got one of daves tc and suncost hd rebuild kit done vb myself and rebuilt it all in my shop it did good for another 20k then sold the truck still going strong so stock sucks if you know how to build them i love them:-laf

hopefully mine holds up but the TC and the shift timing sucks bigtime, seems to shift up too soon and the TC is way too loose.

I have 90 thou on mine, not much towing, nothing heavy, but every now and then it will hang up in 2nd, then shift up and down real hard a time or two, then be fine for another month.

Can't seem to correlate this to anything in particular, it happens in hot weather way more than cold. Makes me a tad nervous, but it works fine the other 99. 8% of the time.

I had some goofy 1-2-1-2-1-2-3-2-3-2-3 shifting thing going on. I got a new valve body from HTS and it cleared that up and firmed up the shifts. Seems great.

My wife's '03 has 99K miles and no problems. It has never been silky smooth shifting like the 68RE, but it serves the purpose. transmission temps always stay below 180' so no problems w/ cooling.

This whole truck has been the most trouble-free vehecle we ever owned. DC actually had a positive influence on Dodge quality, IMHO. I was sad to hear they sold Dodge as they were the safety net. That's another story.

Pan temp vs line cooling temp is personal preference. If you want a quick and easy install for pan temp I can recommend the Westach (from Geno's). Dipstick sensor is optional, the only company that offers it. Just attach it to the dipstick with tie wraps and wire it up like other gages. Many posts in TDR about gage install, and transmission temp gages. I mounted mine in the center recess above the drink holder. I like Westach anyway, accurate and responsive, but that's just my humble opinion.

I just bought an 05 with the 48re, I am less than impressed. It has 53k on it and I noticed that it was doing a shuffle shift 1-2-1-2-1-2 under an every day accelleration of 1400-1600 rpm. I took it into the dealer and their senior transmission hey came out and took it for a test drive with me. While I started to explain to him what was going on he cut me off and explained exactly what was going on. He said it was not uncommon. He said the 2nd gear band was gving up, said scedule an appointment to have transmission pulled and that band and servos replaced. :{ Any one here have something similiar? I also noticed that in od at highway speed 60-65 the converter is locked if I start to accelerate to pass 3/4 throttle it unlocks the same as if I where full throttle. Is this normal? or more sypmtoms of the same problem above?

Sorry I didn't mean to high jack the thread.
