Hello,

Called DC today to get a status on my truck. Yesterday it was in a D1 status with a 7/24/01 ship date, today it's in a E status with a ship date of 7/24/01 (today). How long does it take them to build these things, the girl at DC said it only takes a day or two, is this correct? I can't belive they are working on the frame today and it's gonna go to shipping today..... seems there would be a bit more quality control then that. Any information from those that have ordered and tracked their trucks progress in the past would be appreciated.

Thanks,

from what i remember, the ship date is the date it leaves the factory... however, they usually dont have their info updated for a few days, so its possible ur truck could be on its way already... . just keep calling and asking for a railcar #

It only takes a couple of days to build them, I'm sure. I have worked in a GM plant and it took a couple of days to build a vehicle, if that. They have two shifts going.

As I recall, their QC was perfomed on a spot basis. I've got a hunch the big three do things roughly the same.

By the time I found out that my truck had been shipped, it was already unloaded from the rail car.

When i got mine i asked how long it takes to get one if ordered it, they said 16 weeks for the Turbo Diesels. I imagine that changed now though, so you will hopefully not have to wait that long.

Called on mine today 7-24-01 and now my ship date has been moved foward from 8-6 to 8-4. found out mine is being built in mexico also. 8-4 is on a saturday would they ship it then? I heard they can build these in a couple days. Not really sure though. . ;)

2 Days

It takes 2 days to actually build it. Mine was built on April 10/11, 2000. Also, don't be surprised if their dates are screwed up. On one of the days mine was actually being built, they told me it would be built the next week! Next thing I knew, it was at the dealer! It came in on a Sat. Mine was built in St. Louis. I'm in WI, so mine never had to get on a railcar (semi all the way), so it got here fast. I heard the Mexico trucks travel by burro:D , so they take longer to get from A to B. It's like being an expectant father, isn't it?:D

From the day I ordered my 3rd 2001 ETH to the day I picked it up, was 28 days. Not bad, considering I waited 116 days for my '98. 5 back in '98. It was worth it though, that truck was great... Sure do miss it... :(

Mexican trucks by Burro

Actually what takes the Mexican trucks so long to make their way N. of the Border is the Border Patrol has to stop the rail cars at the checking station long enough to bang on the hoods to wake up the illegals before detaining/deporting them as they sneak into the country. ;) A 100 railcar train can carry quite a few Dodge trucks. :D

May be funny but having lived in Laredo for a year and half, I found it is much more true than I'd care to believe.

I guess they do build them quickly

Called DC today for a update and the truck is built and has left the plant. Now just the wait for it to get here. Thanks for the info everyone.

How are U ordering a 2002?

Every dealer around here (MD/VA) areas have not gotten their price specs for the 2002 trucks so they wont even consider placing an order yet.

So how did you get a 2002 ordered?

Our 2002 is ordered and scheduled for build on August 1st. What I did is use our 2001 deal that got cancelled (the deadline for building a 2001 had passed) and agree to up the price we pay by whatever percentage the list price on the 2002 is higher than the 2001. In other words, if the 2002 list price is 2% higher than the 2001, I'll pay the 2001 price we agreed on times 1. 02.

They don't need prices

LAV25,

They don't need 2002 prices to order a truck for you. They probably don't want to hagle on the price with you when they don't know exactly what their cost will be on the truck. You can solve this by going to a dealer that doesn't hagle on prices but charges a fixed amount over invoice (my dealer charges $58 over invoice). I signed a order agreeing to pay the invoice price of the 2002 truck plus $58. I ordered my truck on 6/2/01 from the dealer and they placed the order with DC on 6/14/01. It was built and shipped from the factory on 7/24/01. They can order trucks now and have been able to for over a month.

Good luck,

Do not feel bad it took exactly 100 days for me to take delivery of mine. Since I had ordered it before the fourth of July that added about an extra week since most plants have a total shut period for repairs.

DC's bogus build scheduling!

Man, am I steamin'. I order my truck on 6/4, order confirmed on 6/15. Call today for an update and get D1 status, scheduled to be built the 2nd week of August !

RustyJC orders his on 6/27 and gets a build date of August 1st ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for RustyJC. I just don't understand how an order placed 3 weeks earlier gets built 1-2 weeks later. Huh? How's that work?

Don't get too torqued yet!! :) I've been through enough delays and cancellations that I'll believe they've built my truck when I see it sitting on the dealer's lot! :D

I suspect the scheduling is tied to the availability of specific components. Since yours is a 4x4, maybe something like the delivery date of transfer cases is the reason for your later build date. I don't know - just a'guessing!

But what gets me is that I called on 7/16, they said it was D1 (build scheduled, nothing on restriction), but not on the line yet. They gave me the VIN then too. So at that time I was thinking that the build is imminent. Now a week and a half later, and the same status ?

I've been waiting for the planets to line up just right for 2 years now to finally get this truck and any deviation from the way I think things should go is just not acceptable ;)!

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I got a kick out of the way you put it: "too torqued" :D. I am going to talk to the dealer on Monday and see if I can get some lame-assed explanation that I won't find acceptable, but at least I'll have gone through the motions.
