3rd gens are 2003 and after, and if someone bought a new truck and changed their signature since they posted to this thread then it would change their signature in every thread they ever posted on. The thread is about VP-44's and lift pumps, that are on 98. 5-02 trucks.

70K miles, waiting for my third vp44 to come in. Backordered, dealer says two to three weeks for delivery.

I'd like to hear some specifics on your truck, namely model year, one thing I've noticed is that the guys that put on alot of mileage like me (Knock on wood) 130,000 on a 2001 and Mundgyver with 150,000 on a 2001 seem to get good use out of their VP's, heck it's farther than my VE went on my 93.

I really think that the temperature issue has something to do with failures, basically heating and cooling cycles. But with that said 3 pumps in 70,000 miles is absurd, I'd be looking for other issues like a plugged screen on the fuel sending unit in the tank, something is killing those VP's

No modifications, truck is stock. 45K, transfer pump and vp44 replaced due to getting frequent 0216 codes. From delivery to that time I followed the owners manual and used just good quality diesel fuel with no additives. First lift pump held 14 psi at idle and 12 at cruise and 10 at wot, it was a good lift pump, but was replaced by dc as part of the vp44 replacement ritual.

With vp #2 i have used standyne lubricity additive from day one. Second transfer pump held 14 psi with engine off, 10 at idle and 6-8 at cruise. On a recent long trip I was cresting a hill, unloaded, and watched the fuel pressure dip to about 4 lbs and the check engine light came on at that time. Several hours prior to the pump failing to maintain pressure the gage would take a major dip down to 2 or 3 lbs when I engaged the speed control and the truck was attaining cruise speed.

My truck is a 2002, HO CTD which i bought new.

2001 H.o.

118k original VP, lift pump @ 68k, new turbo @ 110k, no mods. Fuel guage 16-17 psi @ idle, 14-15 psi cruising @ 62 mph, 11-12 @ WOT, 22 mpg documented. Lots of Marvel Mystery Oil in the engine oil @ one quart per oil change and 12-16 oz. in the fuel at least every other fillup. Truck is a 2001 HO

185K, original VP, but about 5 LPs. When I started the ruck this morning, it read 7psi, so I guess I'm due for another one. I have the LP back by the tank, so It's a fairly quick change. F-1 Mark 1. 6s and a Comp. '01 SO Auto.

172,000 on the '99 truck and 98,000 on the '01. Original VP's on both, but lift pumps have infrequently failed. Gotta love those aftermarket pressure guages. ;)

196,310 miles, bought it used and only 2 lift pumps, but still original VP.

Who said they are junk pumps ???? I had 2 PowerJokes and replaced Injection pumps twice on both... ...

Only 55,700 on mine but she is strong and no problems so far. Still runs like the day I got it. All the miles are heavy towing (very careful heavy towing). Tow vehicle only (tractor).

Replaced my first LP last week just because. I joined the TDR and got paranoia about it... ... . The original was fine as far as Fuel Pressure, just was rusting to the point where the case was about to rust through?? So I am going to keep it in the tool box as the back up pump for now.

I opted for the low fuel pressure idiot light (@ 5 PSI) instead of the gauge. I figure if I ever see it flicker while cruising or accelerating... ... ... Its time.

166,000 and still goin strong, replaced the lift pump with the mopar in the tank replacement kit. Been workin great, plannin on gettin a preformance box and tapping the pump wire, then we will see if it holds up lol.

1999 2500 4wd, 5spd, 3. 55s - 222k original VP (still going strong), third LP (average about 60k each). Very little conditioner. No mods (other than airbox and exhaust).

The old man drives it 150 miles a day back and forth to work... it is more reliable than my 04. 5...
