Just wondering if you had a version of the VP that had the brass advance piston bore vs the steel piston bore?

The newer build VP's have better electronics (tougher I think), and get all new seals and rings, and I think a new body if you had the brass advance bore.

Just trying to continue gathering info on failed VP's. I think the new rebuilds are probably much better mechanically than the orgionals in the 2nd gen.

With that I think we have a much better chance of keeping the VP running if normal care (clean, lubricated, water free fuel, at the right psi and volume) is taken.

I wonder how many repeat VP failures are happening with the newer rebuilds? I tend to think not very many if all the feeding parameters are met.

No idea on piston bores or whatnot. It was a still the originall in the '99.

I went with the new housing unit on my rebuild.

And yes - the Blue Chip has the FedEx electronics supposedly.

I really can't veriffy anything aboot it. I just R&R'd a hunk of iron with electrical plug ins. That's what I know FOR SURE. LOL! ;)

I've had the worst luck with mine in the last few months. I was on the original lift pump and VP when it started acting up. Still under warranty so I took it to the dealer. Well here I am a few months later, 2 lift pumps(have the relocated one in the tank now), 4 VP44's, and one ECM. It's all been under warranty, but it is getting ridiculous. I am ready to take the truck in and trade it off. I've only got about 10k miles left in warranty and there is no way I am going through all this without the warranty.

How does everyone think the VP's are going to stand up to ULSD?

How many miles on your truck

Do you add something to the diesel like Stanidine? Also 2002 have a better rate of killing the VP's. Some have said that it's due from lack of air cooling to the VP.

189,890 miles on the original VP! Yep, on borrowed time I'm sure. Never any fuel additive. Always maintained GOOD fuel presure. Fingers & toes crossed!

New VP/LP on my sister's truck (2001)--about 150k.

Original on Mom's truck (1999) put fass on it just recently (first LP replacement). She's under 100k.

My 24v is on its third LP (in 135k) AND ORIGINAL VP--and still putting down around 470 RWHP.

 265,000 miles on origional VP44, installed a carter pusher pump at 70,000 miles and have had no problems with the VP to date.

270k with original VP. 2 lift pumps. Fuel pressure gauge identified the bad lift pumps. Never ran it out of fuel. TST power max for all but 30k. Tone wheel went through side of block at 270k now I have a new '07.

Just got a new VP at 75k miles (under warranty!). Still have factory LP, but relocated about 10k miles ago. Still get 10-13psi and it also passes the Dodge flow/volume test. My mileage went back up 3+ MPG with the new VP. I average 18-19 mpg again.

Dropping MPG is a good indicator that something is not quite right with the VP44 / fuel system.

If you generally drive the same route the same way and hand track your MPG and it starts to slide, you can bet something is causing that. You have to find out what, but at least you have an indicator that triggers you to start searching for the cause.

Maybe graph your MPG. It should be a reasonably flat (ie the same) graph. When it starts to wander something is up. It also will help to show you if you did something like changed injectors, turbines, tires, additives, whatever, if it effects your MPG.

128,000 on original. 3rd lift pump relocated with vulcan big line kit. Use Stanadine and 2-cycle oil. Still getting 20 mpg even on winter blend.
