Dang, I have only had 2 in mine and see doing 3 with one backed in. I am surprised all 4 in the bed are facing forward! Good job, now I miss not having a D-Bike thank you.

Damn, someone needs a trailer. :D

The trailer is the start to all things time consuming...

It took 3yrs to get to this point and sometimes wish I had the "good ol days" back. Throw the bike in the bed and go.

Now it's 2hrs to load, 1hr to drop off the load, 1 hr in line to dump the tanks on the way home, and this is if I don't want to play with the truck once I get to the sand box. Add another round of loading and unloading to "unleash the beast. " 6 hrs of WORK for a weekend of play.

But hey, I have a toilet and shower now, right..... ?

Lorenz,

It looks like your mini-pack is sacked out?

This is why I don't recomend them for heavy towing. Kinda like my old man used to say "do as I say not as I do". 1000# tongue weight + 2000# camper means I'm way over even the Dodge recomendations for the rear axel.

How many spelling errors did you find?

The 2 middle ones are smaller bikes (TTR225/RM80)... . and offset so the bars dont hit the 250 & 450... . there's also 3 gear bags stuffed to the gills in the bed/on the joe hauler... . it was a fun packing exercise!

After 6 days of tent camping in the CA mountains where it dropped to 35degrees, and no shower the entire time..... I'd be willing to give it the 6 hours work..... have to remember it is offset by not having to setup camp as much and the creature comforts..... but good point, wasnt aware it was such a pain in the *****... .

Assuming you mean the rear leafs? Not sure if it was or not, on level ground it was about 1. 5" lower than normal..... rode very nice and sustained 80-90mph up the I5... . hell even got 45mpg! :)

More like 16. 5... . not too bad at those speeds and only . 5 - 1mpg less than empty on the same trip 2 weeks ago.

I used to have KX's, a couple of 250s, (00, 01, 02) until I discovered the light with thumpers. Had an 03 CRF450 and an 04 CRF250 and now am waiting on a 250SXF. In the meantime, I can fit our SDG and two Sikk 125s in my shortbox. :D It's been too ling since I've been to the "500 Riding Park" or had my sand tire mounted and rode the dunes of Little Sahara. :(

My KX is an 03 (with the new frame), great alround bike, not the fastest 2smoke 250, but very good (stock) for offroad and at the track... . Yeah, I have an 03 CRF450... and it flat out hauls ***** on the big hills, is easier to ride at the track (jumps are much easier), will do over 100mph (with the baja designs wide ratio transmission)... . and is a fun bike, that being said, I'm still not a total 4 stroke convert (I'll have both as long as they make 2 smokes)... because the maintenance on the 4strokes suck (esp the Honda's... . check valves / change oil every 5 minutes, ****ty air box design), parts are expensive as is maintenance, and it's a pig off road in tight stuff... . but thats why I have the 03 KTM 200EXC..... it's just like the trucks, no one of them is perfect..... as long as I have a bike I'm happy..... congrats on the SXF... . looks like a very very bad ***** bike... . and KTM's (no matter which one) absolutly haul the mail..... please let me know how you like the SXF once you get some time on it... . I'm due to replace the stable... . right now I'm thinking of trading the 200 for a new 300XC (as the total offroad bike), the CRF for either a new KXF450 or YZ450 (but I need to see how people are liking them as their new... . or test ride one)... . and the KX for either a new YZ250 or RM250..... just like the trucks, i have no loyality, just want the best for what I'm gonna use it for... . have a good one and enjoy the hell out of that sxf...

Must be the model cuz my 96 XR400 never needed valve adjust, could change the air filter with no tools and was without a doubt the most durable and longest owned for me out of KTM's, Suzuki's, Yamaha's and Kawasaki's.

and it's a pig off road in tight stuff.
I can agree there and after 6 years it was the weight that made me want to change. It saw everything from play riding in the woods & desert to District 36 Enduros and many dual sport fun rides, I miss the pig.

Sweet ride for sure! What I think about is a dual sported KTM 525 e-start. It would do Enduros just as well as the XR did yet pull like a CTD. :D

XR400 is much like the DRZ400 I owned and put 9k on it wo a valve job, and changed the oil 10 times max... . it was running strong when I sold it..... totally different beasts than the CRF 250/450 the uni cam, flat skirt piston is a technology marvel and a wonderful engine for performance... . but the maintenance cycle sucks... . not that I follow it but the manual recommends "15 hours for piston replacement and valve adjustment"..... definately not an XR... . I have / am thinking of a 450XC as well... . just a wee bit less girthy than the 525..... if I could get a bike dual sported in CA (which you no longer can) a 525 would be the ticket.

My 1997 CR250 has plates on it. I did it about 4 yrs back. Don't ask me how, I'm still amazed. It does 75mph tops on the freeway all strung out with the tallest gearing I could find for it. I have to run "Fred Flinstone" style when I take off from stop lights to save the clutch with that gearing. :-laf Riding stair cases in the middle of the night with buddies was some of the best times I've had on that bike.

I've been debating the wide ratio crf450. Does it compare streat wise, to the older xr650l. I was a little hesitant on the whole conversion with the CRF after I read about the maintnence schedule when they first came out. I'm not sure how freeway riding would be on that motor considering it carries so little transmission oil?

Lorenz, I'm surprised that you're only getting 75. My 99 YZ250 with 15/47 gearing and a FMF Gnarly pipe (that has no over-rev), and it runs about 80 and change, and it still has a decent hit off the bottom. Nonetheless, I'll probably have a CRF450X in my garage in the next week or so.

I'd love a KTM 300 2Smoke on the street..... have ridden a few on the street in Australia, it's a blast! RE the CRF450 on the street... . definately has the power..... maybe not as freeway worthy as an XR650L... . but definately a lot better at riding stair cases! If I could get it street registerd, I'd keep the thing forever (but I cant)... . re the oil capacity, baja designs also sells an 2nd oil tank that fits between the front frame rails and behind their skid plate... . holds an extra 350cc for an even quart of motor oil (thats the issue, not the transmission oil) for the bike..... I have one, it's awsome... . the transmission holds 700cc, and is comperable to all modern motocrossers, I dont worry about it at all... . if your ever in socal let me know, i'll let you ride the thing (and you can make an informed decision)..... if I still have it, need to upgrade all the bikes to 06's... .
