If the light bulb breaks off at the base, here is a handy tip. Stand on an all metal shop stool and with a freshly peeled potato[e] {Dan Quayle variety works best} salt the end you insert into the broken light bulb stub and she will come right out of the socket. Your all metal shop stool will automatically rotate as well, especially if the light bulb is in the basement

Jumping in from the Political forum, I'd just like to add that this current lightbulb crisis is all Bush's/Clinton's (take your pick) fault! :-laf

Just couldn't stay away from this 'brilliant' subject could you??!!

Here we go with the left-wingers blaming it on the conservative right wing Christian coalition. Well, maybe not. Come on, quit straddling the fence with the Bush's/Clinton choice. And why did you put Bush first?

Guys, I'm from Arkansas - I haven't had electric lights that long. If it hadn't been for Clinton being my Governor all those years, I might still not have lectricity.

I work for an Architectural Eengineering firms in the Washington DC area, and we actually design lighting systems for buildings.

There was a debate over a fixture and a luminaire. The head of our lighting department explains that a fixture is something in the bathroom one would pee into, and a luminaire is something which illuminates a room (light fixture).

So me, being the wise guy of the office, asks the inevitable: If you have a bathroom with no luminaire on the ceiling or wall, and the toilet is made of clear glass with a neon filament which is emitting light, is it a fixture or a luminaire? :-laf

Of course, he had to spend the next two hours consulting with his coworkers, and they couldn't answer me. BTW, he drives a Powerstroke!

Eddie

Aircraft manufactures use "fixtures" to allign and assemble aircraft structures. They used to be called "jigs", but that term is no longer PC.

If politicians and their buddys didn't all own stock in light bulb companies, we wouldn't have to pay so much for light bulbs/lightbulbs/lamps and they'd last longer. #@$%!

The government has developed a lightbulb that lasts forever but won't release it to the public to keep the light bulb companies in business

And don't forget the 4 moderator posts warning the posters to get back on the subject, and the Administrator to post that he/she is locking the thread.

Klenger - 'Jigs' is not PC?!? I build plastic model tanks, and I use jigs to assemble the tracks - when did that word become no good? Did you mean 'jugs'?

Shovel, you forgot about the self-appointed thread police warning about thread discipline long before the moderators get involved! :{

lon,

"Jig" can be used as a shortened form of "jigaboo" - a derogatory term for those of the black persuasion.

Rusty

Oh - I think I knew the term 'jigaboo' but hadn't connected it to 'jig'. Sunvagun - guess I learned something new today! Thanks Rusty! :)

I just wanted to be on record (given the previous few posts) that I have absolutly no problems with "those of the black persuasion", and in fact enjoy their culture a lot.

... now about that light bulb, lamp, light, illuminator, tungstan filiment enclosed in a glass vessel thinggy ... If the originator of this post would replace it with an LED array, you would never need to change it again...
