1998, 180K miles. nothing replaced except clutch and timing cover (KDP victim), and starter rebuilt.

Mine does use oil, and has some amount of blowby. It has been to 1800+* tons and tons of times. Dunno if I have a bad ring seat or what. I do know there is not a vac leak... . It uses/blowsby about 1 gallon in 5,000 miles.

1993 D250, 235,000 bone stock. The only things I have replaced are a thermostat, clutching fan, alternator (just failed), cold start solenoid and the kdp is bad. Alternator failing most likely took out the solenoids. Still running the bone stock transmission as well.

399,950 miles and still running great!!

Head gasket replaced at about 200,000 miles due to seeping up front.

KDP fixed at about 325,000.

No other work on the engine, have bombed it some and running K&N air filter.

Get 19 mpg on hiway.

Auto transmission had clutch pack and valve body mods with torque converter replaced at 140,000 miles, not been worked on since.

'98 12 valve. 290k and counting fast running OTR. Head gasket at 247k from high boost while towing in sub-zero temps and strong winds. Nother major done to engine other then head gasket and a few seals here and there and of course the KDP. All sorts of other fixes and mods on truck too numerous to talk about here.

297k miles. Replaced the valve cover gaskets, front crank seal (KDP killed), alternator brushes, belt tensioner and fuel solenoid.

And the tranmission a few times, a bunch of U-joints, brakes, ball joints, 1 front wheel bearing...

just purchased my 1994 and the motor has not been touched, 171,988 miles and runs perfect. I just tabbed the kdp, it was out about 3/32"

Katmandu ,
Given your two similar post on this subject, why so concerned about the service life of the engine  Are you having some issues?

No real issues other that a small fuel leak. I just need the down time to fix it.

I plan on keeping this truck for many years to come. Just curious as to the longevity of the Cummins 12 Valve engine.

.

98 quad cab... . 479,000+ only mods asre K&N air filter... no major problems starter, clutch fan, radiator because of clutch fan, and on the third NV 4500... they really do suck.

113,000 so far. Everything is stock that I am aware of, including the cracked timing cover, probably from the KDP. That's on the short list for repair.

Factory hitch was cracked pretty badly, too. I just repaired that. Wonder what that guy was towing with it...

As to 12V longevity - might want to check marine applications too. Many boats (Grand Banks, etc) use these engines and alot harder than we do!!

225,000 put my banks kit on @ 50K. Motor seems solid. The rest of the truck is a little worn, but this damn Dodge is the toughest truck we've ever had on the farm.
