EGT’s running higher

I posted earlier that I had 367k miles on original injectors - knew I was tempting fate. Started having a miss at 372k, so had injectors checked. Had one bad injector, one marginal injector, and the other four were good. Replaced two injectors.

Well, just replaced the other four injectors getting diesel in the oil! Had one cracked injector (#5) and two injectors with poor spray pattern. Have 386k miles.

I made about 76k before there was a problem. Last summer the truck died on the side of the road heading back to Anchorage in the middle of August. 2 tows to get to the dealer in Anchorage and it turns out to be the the old lift pump died. So Dodge put in the tank pump kit under warrenty. I was good to go. In mid October my wife and I were on our way to Yuma as usual and got to Pocatello Id. As we were coming in on a Friday evening I had 2 short drops in RPM's. This got my attention and the next morning, Saturday I was at the Dealer at 8 AM. They put the box on it a told me the problem was a Check valve on the HPCR. One was rounded up and we were on our way south by noon. We got through the Salt Lake area and were in a bunch of rain and snow level was low on the mountains. We were nearing Nephi and I noticed a lot of brown on the cargo trailer and thought it was road grime from all the rain. We turned off at Nephi for a pit stop and when I shut off the engine I noticed a very low fuel guage which should not have been that way. When I stepped out I almost fell down from all the fuel and oil running out from under the truck and trailer. NOW THIS GOT MY ATTENTION. I looked underneath and it was flooding out of the breather tube, oil and fuel. After about 3 hours of phone calls I got a tow back to Provo to a Brent Brown dealership. I was sure the engine was shot as I did not know how far it ran on Diesel in the oil pan. Monday morning the dealer got right on it and by noon it was done and ready to go. They said that the injector came apart and the fuel went by an o ring down into the block where it pumped the oil out and filled the crackcase with diesel. All the while this was happening there was not any indication that one cylinder was flooding and not firing. It ran smooth as always. In January while I was at Quarzite I ran into the guys from BD and told them what had happpened and they said that check valve never was bad it was the injector starting to go.

Now when my wife and I start our 4K journey from yuma to anchorage I am a little nervous as what next. There is a lot of miles of road in upper British Columbia or the Yukon Territory you do not need to break down.

At 280,000 with Edge attitude beginning at 70,000, smoke, throwing codes... number 5 had a cracked nozzle. Replaced all six bodies with 50hp DDP tips. Am a heavy hauler. 107,000 on those and still singing along.

132+k on stockers, was noticing a little miss/rough idle @ stop lights today. After the new SB OFE gets put in I am going after some new 50 hp sticks.

93k on stock. Used diesel kleen for 1 tank. Fueled up with bio-diesel for 1 tank. However, since the oil appeared "thin" (my first oil chg, so I may not know what used oil from a CTD looks like), I am watching some of the 'fuel in oil' suggestions noted on other threads.

Just turned over 70K yesterday on the stockers. I've been running the TST for 65K miles. It has developed a distinct lope at idle though. Not sure what that is caused by.

My '04. 5 was running real rough last winter, so I took it in for a checkup. They replaced #1 & #3 injectors at about 85K. My first question was "when are the others going to go?". The Svc Mgr's responce was "these are the first ones we have ever replace!". Still, not a fuzzy feeling for me. At 93K now and have not had any further problems.

I wonder how may owners have injectors that are having issuses but don't knowtice there is a problem or just say it will be fine or my favorite thing "the dealer said its fine"

At 63k I asked the dealer to check a small tick coming from the injectors. They said that they found nothing, but decided to replace all six injectors any way. I guess it pays to be good neighbors with the local service manager! :-laf

331,000 miles on my stock injectors, no problems so far. I do change the fuel filter (always fleetguard), every oil change. I also run Valvoline injector cleaner about every 10k.... also, No problems with my 6-speed manual transmission either. I have replaced 3 clutches. In fact the only thing I have replaced, on this motor is one water pump and several lift pumps. I ran a pressure box, called "the volumizer" for about 100k, then ran "the smarty" for about 120 k. I have been running it at stock for the past 110k or so. Got tired of replacing clutches and lift pumps. At times I miss the extra HP, but in reality, it has plenty stock.

wow resurrected a 8 year old thread... awesome!!!
so i'll add to the mix..
240K stock injectors. i only buy from high turnover stores.
Early 04.

04.5 178,000 Smarty Jr. has a hard time passing smog I just use the POD and turn it down to 10 and let em do the snap test. didn't install 2 mic fue filtration till early 100's. Like hearing the great reports

276K w/original injectors, about 66K miles towing 5th wheel. Running rough & noisy now, saving $$ for the $3K replacement. Today's fill-up showed 410M/26Gal=15.8MPG; 21MPG on digital display.

I'm posting a query now, asking if going with 50HP replacements just gets you to max. EGT sooner, so no real advantage?!? Safe travels all.

Will roll 300K by the end of the year and still have the original injectors, and have had no problem with them. I run a stock truck, and stock fuel filtering system. I try to buy my fuel at the same place whenever I can (including the same pump) and when on the road I tend to use Love's as a fuel source. I prefer to fuel up when the gauge is between 1/4 and 1/2 full. On the road I add 16oz of Power Service every other fill up. When in town, not so much.
