Time for trany up-grade/rebuild

Just curious, the DTT stuff has been out awhile and wondering how many miles some of you have on yours. I had the 91% converter and vb put in at approximatly 100k miles. James N (inarush76) did the install for me and reshimmed everything in the transmission for me while in there. I had to go with the seal upgrade of course but other than that the transmission's got the original clutch plates in it. I am now pushing 140k on it and it still works great. My power level has steadily increased, though (something I foolishly swore I wasn't gonna do) but the transmission is still holding fine. Everytime I drop the pan it's clean as a whistle. I really like this set up :)

15K hard miles.........

11K lb. truck as a daily driver. Split Highway/town miles. I'm the type that races from light to light. Needed new brakes at 20K miles. Last AT fluid change had minimal signs of wear. Temps are a little high now that it's really hot out. Gonna try an electric fan set up for around town.

Love it as much as the first day I had it done. Soooooooo much better than the stock transmission.

Dan, did you have to upgrade the seals because of the high line pressures that the valve body produces.

I have 7k miles on my auto and am thinking of upgrading the tc, vb and adding the controller but was wondering if I had to replace or upgrade the seals... So whats the deal? TIA

Just TC and VB

I had only 14k on my 2001. 5 truck when I installed just the 89% TC and the standard VB. Nothing else done to the trans. I have driven the H**l out of the truck for over 12K now and have no issues with the trans at all.

I'd do the same over again without a second thought. Like Dan my power level has steadily increased, and will climb some more soon. I ran a 14. 12, and a 14. 26 ET at muncie this year, so the trans is very capable of handling a lot of power.

Go for the install you will love it!!

Dan, James did my transmission in Feb and I have 16K on it right now, there are a few more things that Bill K. has out now that I would like to update to but I can't see going into the transmission just to update when it's doing fine. I may get to the power level that I wan't to change to a 91 converter and if I do that I'll update the front half again with the latest stuff. I did do the 5 clutch update with a billet hub though.

16,500 miles on mine. More than half of those miles I have been running it way over the HP it was set up for. When I got the DTT stuff I had 275's and an EZ. Now I have a drag comp and DD3's.

Almost a newbie

9000 miles towing at 25K+ I installed the EZ and AFE filter, plus the DTT rebuild at the same time. Made a new truck out of it.

Only thing I don't like is the locked upshifts with the controller on. I'm not a transmission specialist, however, something is being hurt when you shift locked. Maybe if I had a milled stator it wouldn't be so rough.

I do like the locked downshifts for the E-brake. Runs cooler than stock.

Self-installed 91%TC and VB at 22K, ran about 450HP through it everyday until I got to 43K when my stock 2-3 clutch pack gave it up (was flaring pretty good between shifts). James rebuilt it about 1500 miles ago, changed to the 89%race TC and upgraded the clutch packs and added billet shafts. It's done great and I'd do it again!

I had to upgrade the seals for a combination of reasons; the higher line pressures coupled with the age and amount of milage I already had on the transmission. It is my understanding with a transmission with as low a miles as yours has and as new as it is, a seal upgrade would be unnecessary.

I had Fred Swanson do mine the first week of April. 17,000 miles since the rebuild and update. I got all the latest stuff and cryoed input and hub. All seals were replaced. Stock clutches looked fine so he said they will be fine. I love this truck even more now. It idles up hill with 12,000 lbs behind it. WOW!!!!!!!!!

20-25k on my little ol' DTT t/c & vb and around 30 times pulling a 40,000 lb sled down a 200-400' track and it still moves the truck---only thing that's been broke was a sprag gear in the o/d and the output shaft a couple of times and those weren't DTT parts---I'm sure I can't get much more out of the transmission since the twins have upped the power just a tad, but hey you never know--we never thought it'd last this long---thanks to Shanti & Bill K. and their staff----chris
