My last truck went to 194k and still ran like new when I sold it. My current truck has 140+ k and still runs fine. If anyone has replaced an engine, how long did it last and what happened to it? Who has the most miles on one engine?

Depends on how much power you have/use and how well you want it to run. Valve jobs and ring seal do not last forever--Cummins makes good engines but they still have to obey the laws of physics and stuff wears out.

Owners generally don't notice that performance is decreasing because it is generally a gradual thing. Periodic dyno tests will tell you when the engine has gone down some in performance.

In the TDR mag back issues there were at least 2 articles about trucks with over a million miles with out overhaul and one was used commercially to deliver trailers.

How far can it go

490,097 miles and still going very strong. New transmission last march, new starter, alternator, hoses, etc. (not needed, just done for peace of mind). Gas gauge lite stays lit, (new one on shelf), ABS brake lite is always on, (stops fine), thinking of replacing parking brake cable. Just installed ranch 9000 shocks and airbags, killed the ride I got from the old shocks, I am a happy camper with the old lady, she has no bad habits, mileage 18/22, now I am going to install a TST #6 plate and a new turbo, (not needed, just playing). A wonderful piece of equipment.

The engine will continue to run a long time, but performance will slowly degrade, especially if you have a lot of power. It is easy to lose 50 hp on a high HP Ram after 75,000 on a valve job, for example.
