When I lived in Easton, Pa. in 1955, vehicle safety inspections were every 6 months. I had a new car with just over 1700 miles at the time, and when taking it for inspection at a local private garage certified to carry out state inspections, they pulled one of the front wheels to check wear of the brake linings, when I questioned the need for inspection of linings with just so low milage on a new car, they said being it had an automatic transmission, heavy brake usage compared to stick shift. Most cars I've seen since never would meet Pa's standard for that time, they were very hot on all the glass not just the windshield, and window stickers closely regulated. I thought ever 6 months a little over the top.
