How many States have Annual inspections???

How many times have you seen a truck on the highway, four people in the cab, with a scoop of sand and cinder blocks and bags of concrete on top of the sand and all this in a half ton truck? :--)







Or the Toyota flat bed with wood pallets stacked on it?



I dont know about the rest of ya, but I wonder how they pass any inspections at all.

You're not kidding! There's a POS 80's Ford Van with the body, hacked off behind the driver seat. The owner built a plywood wall with an RV window installed. The rest, is all Flat Bed.

If California desides to go with this, they'll HIT the JACK POT! KA CHING!!!!!!!!!!!

Minnesota here, no inspections or emissions. They use to have emissions inspections 6-7 years ago, but finally pulled their heads out of thier butt and stopped that nonsense! I will fight like mad to oppose any state mandated inspections. I refuse to pay more taxes due to other peoples lack of ability to keep thier vehicle up to snuff. Its BS, I dont understand why people turn to government mandated control to "fix" stuff. Its not going to help, as stated above, there is no proof that the inspections even help drop accidents.



Now, on the reverse side of things, I think very few accidents are due to faulty mechanics of a vehicle, but more often than not, the idiot behind the wheel is at fault. I personally think that every 4 years that you have to renew your lic. that you should be required to take the BEHIND THE WHEEL test at your local DMV, with YOUR registered vehicle. And that you must pass the test to renew your lic. Way more often do I see people doing stupid **** on the roads then I see a falling apart vehicle, or what have you.



Also, lift laws, I think they are stupid personally. I can understand why a truck lifted 15" should be keep to the trails and mud pits only, but in Minnesota, my truck, with a 4. 5" lift and 35" tires is illegal buy Minnesotas lift laws! Hell, my bumpers with 265's and stock suspension was already over the limits!

It aways had a bunch of chokers, chains, chain saws, axes, saw gas, and whatever else he threw in the back. It smoked so bad it was like riding in a gas chamber. If you opened a window it was worse because more smoke could come in from the holes in the floor boards. If he had ever been inspected they would have been tempted to shoot him on the spot.

It was always loaded with all kinds of logging stuff. Sometimes even a 50 gallon barrel of diesel. It aways had a bunch of chokers, chains, chain saws, axes, saw gas, and whatever else he threw in the back. It smoked so bad it was like riding in a gas chamber. If you opened a window it was worse because more smoke could come in from the holes in the floor boards. If he had ever been inspected they would have been tempted to shoot him on the spot.

No they wouldn't. They would wave him thru! Too much paperwork with the 2 previous options! :-laf

Inspections

In Louisiana, there is an annual safety inspection we call a brake tag. In some parishes (aka counties in other states), there are exhaust emissions tests done. I don't think they are strictly enforced here in Louisiana because I see a lot of cars really smoking bad and law enforcement doesn't consider that a priority since Hurricane Katrina made half the population of New Orleans move.

Last time I went for a state inspection (PA) I was required to take and pass only the safety inspection; no emissions. Apparently in PA, emissions testing requirements are by county of residence. In Susquehanna county, emissions testing isn't required. Maybe one county over and I would have to do it. I haven't had my CTD inspected yet so I don't know what the requirements will be then...

I'm not sure if they are doing emissions on the 07s, but on my 04. 5 it is only a safety inspection also... they don't even realize (or care) it's missing a cat. IIRC, it is a GVW thing... anything over 8k (was 7k until recently) is exempt...



I know that the rumor was that emissions testing was under scruteny on whether to keep or abolish that testing... they would then rely on the OBDIII to tell them when you had issues and would send you a letter in the mail telling you to fix your car...
