Every time someone gets into my truck they comment on how many switches I have and if they try to drive it complex it is. I have a switch for:

E-Brake
High Idler
4-Lo
Backup Light Overide

and have plans for more. I am thinking about making a pretty trick switch setup and was wondering how many you guys have.

If you were to have a central switch area, where would it be?

I replaced the stock cup spiller with a switch panel. It has six switches on it now with a couple more planned. I have a picture of how in looks on my computer that I can e-mail you. It's on my machine, not this one at work.

I mounted 8 lighted switches below the steering column. The panel is easily removed and there is plenty of room. My autometer pyro box is mounted their also.

1. E-brake
2. 2-low
3. Generator start(have gen set behind cab,as part of cross bed tool box)
and a hidden push button switch that must be depressed to crank the engine.
I cut an angle iron shaped piece of plastic from the kick panel of a Junked big truck which the switches are mounted on and it mounts to the bottom of the dash.
Then there is the ampmeter for trailer brakes, the CB, three gauges, etc. A buddy says it looks like a carnival ride.

Reason I ask is I am thinking about making a nice looking switch panel setup that would have labels and red/green indicators, I am in the works of designing it and having it built. I was thinking about it going to the left of the column as it would match the black dash and not be large and obtrusive, anyone think this would be a good idea?

I made a panel with 8 switches on it (one illuminated rocker switch for each of the seven Painless Wiring Kit circuits and a DPDT rocker switch for the pre- and post-turbo thermocouples). I mounted it on the knee bolster panel to the right of the steering column.

So far, two of the ignition-hot switches are used for gage power and illumination and one of the constant-hot switches is used for auxiliary backup lights. One of the ignition-hot switches is reserved for the 4-Lo function.

Other switches are: Exhaust Brake, Fog Lights and Horton fan clutch manual override.

Wish I had a pic of my switch panel. It was cut on a CNC router from 1/8" red plastic and has room for labels.

I have 4, 1 for the PIAA fogs, 1 for the neon lights under the dash (Great at night when you are looking for something on the floor), 1 for the Hella back up lights and 1 for the elctronic air horn. I have mounted below the odometer on the balck plastic trim

I put my CATZ light switch on the side of my Mike Broling (sorry for the spelling!) CB bracket.

What I'd like to do is rig up a nice looking face plate for my empty overhead console for my 98. I don't have the trip computer so the console is left open. It is a nice place to keep your sunglasses, but I think it would be cool to have 4-5 switches up there so you could get it, turn on the truck and then start acting like a pilot by throwing all these overhead switches.

Sounds cool eh? Anyone have the expertise to do this?

I have 6 switches I took out the cubbyhole beside the radio and made a plate to go there and mounted the switches there. i am getting pictures developed this week and will try to post them here or under interior pics.

I have thought about mounting switches in the lower frint of the fold down center console. Has anyone had that thing apart, whats down low in front when you take out the plastic liner

Let's see here... One for the BD brake, shifter mounted, one to toggle the solenoid for the Hadleys on or off, one for the Hurst Roll Control, one to toggle the relay for the ECCO back up alarm on or off for those late night backing ins when the neighbors don't need beeping in addition to the exhaust, and one for the BD valet switch, one for the homemade anti-theft device. So that's four plus the shifter switch. All BD lighted toggle switches to give it the consistent look.

I keep looking at the overhead unit and the areas that are unused on mine (sunglass holder, garage door controller).

I think someone should come up with a nice low current (i. e. remote relays) setup that would replace part of the overhead unit with switches for our toys.

CD Changer control mounted to the area where the Trip Computer would be.
High Idler switch mounted in-between the two map lights.
Back up/Utility lights switch mounted to the knee bolster panel.
Alarm switch mounted in ashtray.
Radar detector switch and indicator light also in ashtray.

That makes five #ad

David VT, that is what i'm hoping to do with my 4 switches that i'm going to install. i'm looking at a window lock switch for the passenger door up there and three other switches that could be used for various things. I've got my switches and LED's, now i just need the time to get them put in and wired. Planning on having the remote relays like you mentioned.

I just have one. The switch for the Aux. fuel tank. I had to flip it this morning coming to school. 1300 miles on 60 gallon. The way I figure thats about 21 miles to the gallon. Other than a trip to Dallas that is all in town.
