Competition A challenge for Joe D.

When i bought my twins, the PDR towing twins had a 23cm housing,I got a 26 with my hx40. IMO the 23cm housing will spool slightly faster,BUT the secondary is whats doing most of the initial spooling anyway, and the tighter housing on the 3B limits top end flow, and makes it harder to control top end boost on trucks over 500hp. I've heard the PDR towing twins now have a 26cm housing on the 3b as well.

I switched from a 23 to a 26 this morning. Doesn't seem to be alot of difference on the bottom. Maybe a little, but not alot. Haven't tried the top end yet. Was told that was where the difference was.

When I did mine I was looking for a 23 housing but could not find it in a non divided entry. Thats why I went with the 22. I don't have all that much power ~400 or so. Works well for me.

I just got back from a 50 mile test drive of the 26 housing. Quite honestly I don't see much difference. I didn't do any in town driving. But alot of hill and winding road stuff. It seems to spool the same as the 23. I thought earlier I wasn't getting as much boost when I stepped into it. But it seems to go up to the same amount. It did seem to run a little less smoke at around 40 to 50 psi boost. That might be caused by the lower wastegate setting.

you could probably do it and be pretty sucessful at it to, most people i see want to use thier own turbos and try to build the pipes, i think a twin builder said they would sell just the piping for around $2,000 thats quite high imo but if one could sell them for under a thousand dollars hed probably have a few customers. but there are a lot of different variables to take into consideration. id say give it a shot, you wouldnt be out much.

There are folks that sell pipe only kits... they haven't done a very good job at marketing them, though - since the word isn't exactly out there that such a thing is available.

Selling pipe only kits is tough as the vendor sorta 'hopes' what they offer will fit the customer's truck. That's why most vendors sell the complete kits... that way they know it all will work together.

I'd be willing to buy a pipe-only kit... I already have the rest of the fixin's... :D

Give me a few weeks to play with my new stuff then Im on it. Prob only going to do the hx-40 or 35 to a HT3B that seams like what most people use. Or can I get a few turbos at cost from ya Holset?

I bought my HT3B (36cm²) for a good price... remember when they used to go for ~$275 new?

I don't have a supply of turbos, per se - but I do know where to get 'em.

I decline to make specific comments on what constitutes a pipe-only kit that "won't break the wallet". But, $2000+ for pipes is absurd.

Mark: `Twas only about 2 or 3 years ago when you could get 'em that cheap. Oh, and I'm 25 years young...

You can run across them once in a while but I've never bought one for less than ~375 new(+shipping). second hand or used maybe but not new. You got lucky!

25? I feel old now and I'm only 30;) :D

Here is what we have been working on, an affordable twin hot pipe and cold piping kit. It will be welded together, but you guys grind, clean and paint/powder coat it. it will consist of the hot pipe, turbo to turbo cold pipe, turbo to intercooler cold pipe, air inlet pipe & the exhaust pipe with flange welded on. This will all be for under $1000. 00. [$956. 62 to be exact] Things one would have to make and supply themselves, air filter, oil feed lines & drains, turbo support, hoses and clamps, blow off valves if wanted. I'm trying really hard, to make 1 setup, that will fit 1st,2nd & 3rd gen trucks. Stomp & Brad put the first one on the 1st gen truck, we are putting one on a second gen after Christmas & I'm looking for someone with a 3rd gen, that wants a deal, to try it on theirs. What do you guys think? To get the prices that I quoted, I need to order a minimum of 25 pieces of each, do you think there will be enough interest?

Thanks, Piers

sounds like the piping kits just got competitive lol matt, if you can get ht3b's for anywheres close to $275 i will buy everyone you got :D just kidding, so what are you doing, black marketing these turbos?? :-laf whats the best size oil lines to use to feed them? -4 or -6 ? and maybe a -10 for return? can i use one port on the top of the oil filter and feed both turbos? so i can keep my gauge in the cab. piers, do you modify the switzer turbos like the ht3b's ?? getting ready to order a new turbo because the turbo that i was going to use was no good. i recall you saying the switzer was a better one to use than the holeset.

Piers, funny you should ask. Last night I sent you a request for twins, ARP studs and a 5" inline brake. I'm off for the next couple of months. If you need a test mule send me a pm or an e-mail at -- email address removed -- because I've got nothing but time. :-laf

The pipe set up turned out very well. Its going to be real nice to be able to index the charger any direction desired. Im sure that Piers kits that he is putting together are going to be the highest quality.
