Mike,
This is a situation I face frequently as a moderator on iRV2.com. The manufacturer's ratings are the only numbers a newbie has available when he or she goes out to purchase that first RV - probably having never towed a trailer in his/her life. Do I tell them that it's OK to go 10% over the ratings of their F-150? 20%? 50%? If manufacturer's ratings don't matter, then where does one draw the line?
(By the way, manufacturer's ratings DO matter in civil court!)
Rusty
