Hah. Looks like you have had a hard time just getting a straight answer.
In my opinion, no, it is not worth $1K. It would be worth it for a lower price. The 5-pinion will be more than enough if you keep the O. E. output shaft.
My rule of thumb is to go with a billet input shaft, and keep the OEM output shaft. 99% of the time the output shaft will let go before the planetary, and the O. D. section is something you can replace without tearing into the trans. Just drop the T-case, and I think it's 5 bolts, remove old O. D. section, bolt in new O. D. section.
