I have a truck restoration project going on and would like to use a 12 valve motor. I know this is a heavy motor, but how heavy?

I remember reading that the 12 valve is just shy of 1/2 ton, about 970lb. I think the exact weight is listed somewhere in the owners manual for the deisel Ram.

I just finished putting one in my 72 Dodge. I weighed it again last night and it gained 620lbs on the front wheels. It had a 400ci/727 automatic in it origionaly.

Thanks for the info folks.

Hey Larry! I checked out your site. Do you have any tips on installing this engine in a non-diesel vehicle (electrical issues in particular). The truck I want to put this motor in is a 1950 Ch*** 2 ton.

Thanks Again.

I just weighed my empty '98 Reg Cab 4x4 at the local CAT scales... 4120lbs for Front Axle weight, empty. (No winch/grill guard) In case you were wondering. Yours will weigh a little more w/the Ext Cab.

The electrical part is a cinch(sp?). The hard part is all the mechanical stuff. What year engine do you have? You basically need just two wires to run the engine. one for run (old coil power wire) to hold open the shutdown solenoid and one for start.

E-mail with any questions, I'll be glad to help.

I'm not sure about the weight for the 12v Cummins, but do know that my Reg. Cab 4x4 weights in just shy of 6,000lbs, and a friends 1995 Dodge 4x4 weighs in just over 4,000lbs. Might be because the front suspension, transmission, and engine by themselves weigh the extra 2,000lbs. But it sounds like a nice swap. I almost forgot one thing, I get almost twice the mpg then he gets. About 20mpg to his 12mpg. And my diesel will last longer than his 5. 9 gasser.
