My truck needed a little over 1 1/2 quarts to bring it back up to full after 3500 miles. This would probably be equivalent to at least 3 quarts in 6000 miles. I just wondered how much oil other members are using between changes and also what amount is considered acceptable?

Before I repaired my front cover and crankseal leaks, my truck would be down halfway between add and full at the time I changed the oil. After the repairs it does not use oil between 5000 mi changes:)

on the highway, mine blows a solid quart out the downdraft tube every 500 miles or so... around town it's not so bad at all...

but it still runs like a raped ape and makes god oil pressure, so I figure topping it off w/ oil costs less than the rebuild I want to do! LOL! :D

I change mine every 4K miles, 'cause I like to, not 'cause I need to, and it will consume 1-1/2 qts.

There are too many 5. 9's here at school to count... ... . they all consume oil. They run 10K to 16K miles between changes. The ISB's blow oil out the crankcase vents, enough to undercoat the bus. Mine will not.

The industry standard is 1 qt per thousand, at least that is what they use for warrantee consideration. Mine uses about 1 quart per 3k.

Since fixing all the leaks, save rear main and valve seals, my oil use has been cut in half, to about 1500-1800mi/qt. Mom's leaks out about 1 qt per 1000-1200. When I owned it 4 years ago, it used about 1 qt per 5K change.

With 167kmiles on the clock, mine doesn't use enough to notice on the dipstick between changes at 5,000 to 6,000.

My '92 W250 used to use about a quart between changes. 6000 mile intervals. It had a little over 100,000 miles on the clock when I traded it in.
