California to pennsylvia....

polaris clutch modification??

I reckon about three cord. But I live in the kitchen, bathroom, and front room where the stove is and close off the rest of the house. My wife probably goes through three cords in Bozeman in the mobile home (trailer house for those south of the Mason Dixie :p ).

Second thought maybe I should call it a modular - that sound fancier. Either way we will be replacing it with a small cozy home in the next couple years - good Lord willing. Then it probably will take six cords. :{

Between 2 and 3 cord depending on how long and cold the winter is. I only run it at night durring the week and from Friday till Sunday night. I have a Country insert, throws alot of heat for it's size. A cord of wood cut and split cost about $225 around here, I doubt I am saving any money over oil, but I like the smell and I can get the couple rooms I heat up to about 80 so it is worth it to me.

I am home all day so I burn constantly. I even turn off the boiler pilot light unless we leave town. I have about 6-7 chords of dry pine in the back to cut and stack before the snow flies. This is my fourth winter with the blaze king and I haven't had to buy any wood YET. Instead of up to $200/month of LPG during the cold months I now pay about $130/year to keep the water heater running. ;)

I burn anywhere from 12 to 15 cord of oak/elm/ash/walnut/hickory/whatever I can find. I have a Hardy outdoor furnace that is heating a 3000 square foot, 100 yr old farmhouse in central Missouri. That pretty much covers it.

Just shy of 4 cords. Mostly maple and oak.

It's a 2000 square foot modern Saltbox.

I believe I only used about 400 gallons of oil all last winter. (have aoil fired hot water furnace)

Pay about $125 a cord if I don't cut myself.

It does get chilly here in New England.

Maybe a cord but it don't get that cold down here. You boys are keeping that cold air up there send some down here. I like to cut it,split it and I likes the smell of wood burning. Wish the wife would get some perfume that smelled like that :D In the 11+ yrs we have lived in this house we have turned the central heat on maybe 10 times and thats just to get some instance heat. All the time we are using the wood stove.

Those Hardy stoves are the way to go. My brother has one and so does my mom and dad and I would have already had one too but the truck needed a few upgrades and took precedence over staying warm this past winter. :D

4-5 cords mostly oak. We have oil heat/hot water and the furnace rarely runs other than to heat water. We buy wood by the logging truck load and I cut to length and split myself. Save lots of money that way, but mainly I actually enjoy the work out. Sounds nuts to many, but I just like it, firewood cutting, splitting and hauling up to the house, is my winter work-out program. Our stove burns pretty much non-stop Nov. - Mar. Jim G

Between 2-4 cords.

I have a Vermont castings stove it heats the whole house. 1600`ish sq ft ranch house on a crawl space.

I dont use any other heat when I have wood.

I've been thinking on going to coal, but the wife is terrified of it.

So, how many face cord in a cord? And how many rank are in a cord? Also, how many of any of the above will fit in a truck (long box that is)?

A cord is 4'x4'x8' correct?

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

jtisdale,

Yup, cord is 4x4x8. My roomate has a cord box he puts in when we go cut wood cause its easier to sell that way. A pickup bed full of wood doesn't look like a cord. Having the box makes it known exactly how much wood they are getting.

About 4 cords here, but we have a fireplace and not an actuall wood heating stove so we burn oil. And at -40 we burn oil faster than they can pump it out of the ground. Speaking of that I need to get to the hardware store and get supplies to help seal up my garage so it don't leak so bad.

Parents burn a mix of ten cords of wood (pine, oak, and aspen) and about a ton of coal. The stove they have is a usStove Wondercoal heater. It's there only source of heat and works really well since it's probably 80 plus degrees in the house all time through the winter...

Reason I asked. . I have a new zero clearance Vermont Castings fireplace and we just got a load of 8 face cords (only way I can get it around here). I figure the 8 face cords to be equivalent to 2. 5 cords. My wife and kids seem to think the 8fc looks like plenty, but I don't, so I asked you guys what you burn. Judging by what a few of you say, I figure I need another 8fc to run my burner the way I want. I have a Vermont Castings woodstove in the garage that might get to see some of that wood too.

I have three wood burners in the house. Two are air-tight and one is an old pot bellied unit. I burn 1. 5 tons of oak annually. Sorry, don't know how many cords this is. 1. 5 tons is half a dump truck bed. Comes from the saw mill locally. FWIW

I could be wrong but..

8 face cords should equal 4 cords.

4'X4'X8'. Or 128 cu ft.

You might make a call and tell them that they can deliver the rest.

Eric

These logs are about 16 to 18 inches long. I figure one face cord = 41. 6 c. f.

If a cord is 128 c. f. then 3. 07 of these face cords = 1 cord

8 of these face cords = 2. 6 cords

Looks like I need more.

Thanks guys

Oh yea, forgot to mention

A cord is between $125. 00-$150. 00 here.

You got to watch these guys. They want to bring two toyota PU truck loads, and sell it as a cord.

I get free hardwood and I have a splitter, but I cant do it this year. :{
