Competition 2003 TIM video wanted, do you have it?

Guys,

How should i build my pulling truck? I want it to make 6200 lb class so i can play with the gassers at the county fair. what motor should i use? 12v or 24v. what turbo, cam, tst plate or chip, head, injectors. you guys get the idea? i need to make one hell of a cloud of smoke and make the 275 mark. money is no concern, but power is.

The whole reason behind building a puller is because me farther and I were not able to pull last year at the fair due to the fact we would only make the 6500 open class witch they said we needed to have all the safety stuff to run our stock trucks, and they told us NO exhibition pulls but yet they let 5 strokers run. that ****** us off so this year we are gonna build a truck and kick some ass.

Thanks

Andy&Gordy

Get a 24v and do a p-pump conversion. Can't beat that combo.

Once you get a good engine, and a big set of injectors, EGTs will be your limiting factor for power.

I would suggest calling one of the diesel performance shops, they will be the most help.

You will be spending BIG $$$ on this project.

"Get a 24v and do a p-pump conversion. Can't beat that combo. "

Why not buy a cheaper 2nd-Gen 12-valve truck and get the injection system you really wanted for free?

There really is no advantage for running a 24-valve head or block... . when compared to what can be done to a 12-valve head.

Matt

The 24v head flows better.

From what I hear, the guys who are pushing the most power are the guys who have 24v'ers with p-pump conversions.

My dream truck is as follows:

• Custom built 24v head on my current block.

• P-Pump conversion

• NOS

• And all the other little goodies that go along with it.

That way, I would have the best of three worlds:

•The air flow of a 24v custom head

•The ruggedness and fuel pushing ability of the p-pump

•The large engine compartment, simplicity, and relative light weight of the first gen truck.

A setup like that could push 800rwhp no problem.

Yeah I second the 12-valve motion. Get an old beater 12 valve w/ 300,000 miles and put custom cams and pistons, big twins, fire rings, custom head, piers stupid pump, custom injectors, and mitchell/ haisley clutch. But I dont know anything about pulling, but thats what I would do, or if money is not an option, just drop it off at schieds or mitchells and tell 'em you want a pullin truck.

-Jeff Garmon twins

-Joe Dailey's fly cut pistons and cam setup

-Jeff Prince performance injectors

Triple J?

After the first $50,000, they all run good!;)

Keith, is that based on the performance of Cummnstrkins 24 valve truck Muncie two years ago?;) :D

True statement, especially with the billet heads for the 12 valves that have been out for a while now. Oo.

How in heck are you going to make the 6200# class? Gut it like a racecar?

THAT's what I want to know.

And if you did are you SURE they'll let you run with gassers?

We run "street diesel" around here. SRW and DRW pull separately. That's about it.

Mine only weighs 6450 sitting with everything one it. 6200 should be easy. My trouble at pulls is getting enough weigh on the truck.

Nope, just a fact.

Gene, do you ever make a post that doesn't try to stir **** or degrade someone? Just wondering.

I don't think the man is capable of saying anything nice... . doesn't make him a bad guy... . just a jerk. :-laf

Matt - solid candidate for 'jerk' as well

gutting

Guys,

Yes i was going to gut it like a race car, for example just run box skins and door skins and fender skins. just the bear necessity's anything i have to do to make 6200. i was thinking the 1st gen body style would be lighter and then slap a 12v in it. any input on which body style is lighter? i'd love to run 2nd gen truck but i dint know if its lighter or not. Thanks for the great input guys its helping me put together a heck of a list of parts. Anyone care to chime in on tires? i'll probably run my 305 pro comps on 10x16 aluminum rims.

Thanks

Andy

Keith, all the time. In fact, I have a pm from Rob Thomas, wondering why I was being so nice lately... . I don't get it either, ask him.

Here is an example:https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85630&pagenumber=2

And didn't I just agree with you?

I haven't seen Pro Comps do real well around here.

BFG all terrains seem like a preety good tire for the gassers at that weight.

The better Cummins, tend to blow them away, though.

Hard to choose, unless you have pulled on the tracks before or watched a tire that didn't work.

Tell us about the tracks in the great white north.
