When you are performance tuning, how do you know when you're getting in engine damage terrotory? Do you copy a combination that works on another (for me 2005 automatic with trans upgrades soon) engine that is similar? I've heard some combinations don't work as well on some engines (even same year, etc. ) as others.

What does a tool that measures your total timing cost? It'd be nice if you could check it while running, but even with the engine stopped and the hood is open what do these tools cost, anybody?

Do you increase the levels in your boxes until performance drops off and then lower the levels until performance drops off, and leave it there?

What about fuel? I've seen the pits in pistons from over fueling (in pictures ) I know performance increases right up into engine damage terrotory when you raise your fueling-do you just keep an eye on your EGT's?

Lotta questions I know, thanks in advance.

Wow, yep lots of questions... Let's see. . The short of it, is not to turn up your engine at all. Also, get a set of gauges, watch your EGTs, and never exceed 1250 degrees. With an auto, any slippage at all will eat you transmission in short time, and I see you are trying to do some upgrades. Guages again are key, watch your temps as they will let you know when you are pushing too hard. I imagine most of the boxes work well, really it is when you push past the 100 hp level most get into trouble. Over fueling may be a concern, but most immediately with a stock set-up is lack of fuel. With the Samrty i think level 3 is as high as they recommend with a auto. i have the manual, I run on level 5 and I modded my clutch to a Dual Disc... i easily see temps in the 1400+ range, so I really have to watch it. Some say temps can range up to 1500+ without troubles, but one member here ran 1500+ at the drags an put a hole through his piston.

what?

Dont start it that way its just like new well almost new.

If your going to play your going to pay!!!!

I have never understood why anyone would make the type of statement the engine is made to destroy its self yes if you treat it with care and not use it it will run forever but if you use it and make it work or tune it for more hp. well then it will show its age faster.

bomb it if you want but remember its your truck and your money, someday it will be all gone and no one will care.

I cant own a stock anything so you can see what side of the fence I am on.

have fun and say hello to visa and mastercard for me.
