I took my door off yesterday and I'm gonna get those nasty cracks around my door hinge fixed. I'm gonna need a little touch-up paint after they get welded and I don't have the sticker under the hood that has the paint code on it. :{ Am I going to have to stop by a body shop, dealer, or a paint shop and try to get a match?

Also while I have the door off I'm going to get rid of those mirrors that shouldn't of come with a dual wheel truck. The stripe (tape) thats on my truck doesn't run contonusily behind the old mirror, what am I gonna do with that, rip it off or find a short piece?

I wish that I knew a body man. :{ Suggestions greatly appreciated! :D

I think some paces can mix paint from analysing a sample of it, a chip from somewhere. Otherwise if it is a factory collor just look through a plasticote book with the codes in it. Not tht many to choose from when broken down by application.

BTW how are you going about fixing the cracks. My dads they always cracked back out soon after welding. Mine has them to, but I am just living with them for now.

Isn't there a paint code on a metal tag visible under the cowl panel on the passenger side? Also, I think a FSM give all the paint schemes.

As far as the stripe goes, you might be able to find a permanent marker with color to match and if you hold your tongue just right you ought to be able to trace that stripe almost straight:p:D...

The trucks have one or two tags under the hood. One is a metal tag just above the expansion valve (for a/c)

The other is the sticker that is stuck to the underside of the hood just above the battery.

The other option is a well known paint supply dealer. They take pictures of your truck with a digital camera, enter into a 'puter and presto, you've got your paint code.

That worked for me as well as the metal tag above my expansion valve.

I did not do the painting, a body shop told me how he matched the paint. It was nearly perfect match. You have to remember. the sun fades the paint a shade or two over the years, so the factory match will be just that... ... ... ... a "factory" match.

I don't know if you have taken your mirrors off yet, but there are studs on the door and a big hole to take care of if you want to put on different mirrors. You're looking at more than extra tape striping. Just a heads up.

Finished?

Well boys and girls, here is what I came up with. Like TKingsbury stated, there is a huge hole where the power mirror wire goes through, and also the three studs that hold the mirror and bracket to the door. Luckly I wasn't around when dad drilled holes in my perfectly fine doors or I may of cried. :{ However I LOVE Oo. the extra viewing. For the first time I can actually see around my stack!!! While I'm not all that excited about the plate and the bolts on the top two holes, it should be waterproof  and keep from rusting. Now I've got to be even more careful, the mirrors are 8'7'' wide, and I thought that my 8'5'' bed was wide! The mirrors rub both sides of the rubber on the garage door!

Oh by the way,... I ended up not even needing paint, I just sprayed some that matched up inside where nobody will see it anyway. Sorry Bill, no marker.

Also the first pic is of the HELP door hinge bushing kit that we use. Part #38386, I couldn't believe how worn out mine were after only 5 years. I put a new hinge on when I got the truck, but I guess that I open and close the door a lot

Dieselman,

Your truck looks about the same color as mine (see sig) for future reference your paint codes are as follows: (from label under the hood)

Primary color is PC3 (which I would assume is the blue)

Secondary is QS7 ( Silver)

GL,

Chris is a busy man, he only gets on here about once a week if 'we're' lucky:rolleyes:. Great pics Chris. That plate doesn't look bad at all, much better than DP's rag in the hole:D. Hope you painted/treated it or something, so that it doesn't rust. Gonna have that hx40 and EDM's in for the dyno day this month??:D

Easy Bill

Hey I thought that I've been doing pretty good. I've been keeping up anyway. :-laf

Sorry GL, I just did some cleaning.

I smeared some silicone behind everything, watertight! :-laf

The weld looked a whole lot better than the crack, I should of taken a pic, we also bolted a plate behind the hinge inside the door to spread the clamping surface out a little more.

As for more power,??? I gotta start on my 'new' '03 VW Jetta.
