I don't know about now but when I lived in San Diego in the '80s there was an annual KA vehicle tax of about 2. 5% of value plus registration and license plate fees.

In standard socialist fashion those with more expensive vehicles paid much higher registration fees to drive on the same roads as those with junkers and the illegal immigrants who didn't have liability insurance, driver licenses, inspection stickers, or current registration.

Is that not the way it is now?

This is one way that Oregon rocks, a Ferrari has the same registration cost as a Pinto. No SALES taxes, no personal property taxes on anything for personal use:)

Income tax rates are manageable, need to pay something, I guess.

When i lived in ca. I found a exeption for disabled plates can be installed on any commercial vec. 1 per person with no weight fees ,1 had disabled plates on my 5 ton truck with no weight fees ,dont know if law has changed but worth looking in to

When I lived in California your registration did include what is essentially a propery tax based on the value of the vehicle. In many other states you pay a low registration fee and then recieve a seperate property tax valuation on the vehicle. So a more appropriate comparison would be to add those seperate fees together.

There also used to be a "welcome to California" tax of $300 for each vehicle registered from out of state. That was later found to be unconstitutional and was reversed (and even refunded) somewhere around 1997 or 1998 plus or minus.

Thats how I get taxed for my boat in Calif, as a property tax through the county of San Bernardino. Now that were on that subject, a little known fact for sales tax here, is the base tax before the Counties get their percentage. Is to purchase the vehicle in another State that has no sales tax, then when registering it, here in California you are taxed only on the base tax, for the purchase price. I don't remember what the percentage is, but I saved some money when I registered my 5ver I purchased in Oregon.

In 10-06 I purchased my truck from Dave Smith in Idaho. No taxes were paid until I came home where the DMV collected 7. 75% of the purchase price. They also collected registration fees which under the Governator's early rule were quite reasonable. That's all changed. I choked when I had the vehicle weighed by not removing the tailgate and spare tire as you rate is based on unladen weight. it's only money. Yeah,right. :{

Was San Diego at 8. 25% in 06?

7. 75% in the 92117(Clairemont) area. Chula Vista and Lemon Grove charged 8. 25% at the time. Thank God for Howard Jarvis and Prop 13. Property tax increases here are limited to 1% of the current valuation. I'm paying on $172,000 and the house is worth $350,000. We paid $11450 in 1987 and they've only been able to raise it 1% /year.

Harvey, as I am sure you are very well aware of there is a section here for politics, please keep all your personal opinions there. From my past reading I have respect for you but after reading this thread i have very little respect for you, I live in California and love it, have been to many other places and choose to live here.

Was just at AAA, said it had to be a livable camper not just a camper shell. Would have saved me $200. 00 bucks.

I will post my personal opinions wherever and whenever I choose. The fact that you like KA is your problem, not mine. You are free to have any opinion, respect, or lack of for me.

The best advice I can offer you is if you don't like my opinions don't read them. Your "rights" do not extend to deciding what mine are.

Don't be so hard on Harvey his rocking chair broke and he can't sit on the porch and ***** at the kids no more!

I lived in Santa Rosa for 30+ years and watched it grow. Was out on the west side when it was farm country. When I retired my wifes job took us to Carson City,NV and we have been here 8 years. Nice here but we still have a place in Forestville and when my wife retires we will be back full time. I miss Northern California and I too think its a great place.

Good and bad to everywere. In my old age I try to focus on the good. Life is too short and some want to spend it *****in and moaning:-{}LOL.

Guys, my intent was not to start a ******* contest here. I just wanted to pass along some info for those of us in CA that might find this helpful.

Happy Easter!

Hey, we've got another private snowflake here. If he can't participate in a discussion about the issues he throws a queer comment in as an insult.

A real intellectual midget huh edelheit?

Show the love. Pour me a tall glass of haterade. This is great. :-{}

All we need now is start bashing each other over what brand of oil you use in your truck or if mods are good for the environment.

I apologize for the thread hijacking, I just have a difficult time when adults with the maturity of a 5 year old consider everyone who doesnt think them to be "brainwashed socialist". Very sad however I should not have politely asked a fellow TDR member to respect anthers thoughts and beliefs , how dare I.
