O. K. This question has been brought to my attention twice now. I think I had better go check, and I had better make it it's own thread so others who would also like to know and don't want to see my ride  ;) can still see this.

The question is (as if you don't already know what it is by the title) how do you tell the differance between a Dana 44, 60, 70, etc.

P. S. Wow, my post count is REALLY starting to go up. :--)

Most of them have the 44, 60, or 70 cast into one of the lower angled webs

on the cover side of the housing. If it is a front diff it will have 44F and so on.

Stamp into the axle tube is a number, Dana calls it a BOM (bill of material) find that and go the the attached link and that will tell you what you have. The number will look something similar to this 605512-7 and it will return an info table with a title something like this:

CHRY Model 70 REAR 1991 - 1993. 5 D-300 WIDE TRACK W/ABS

http://www2.dana.com/expert/wc.dll?cvsp~deabill~2~

PS the number isn't stamped real deep into the tube so, you may need a wire brush and flashlight to see it.

Watch out for the kingpin vs ball joint deal. There are alot of ball joint 60s floating around, and they aren't just the newer disconnect type either.

On my axle there is a metal tag attached with 2 of the diff cover bolts? Would that be the same number?

I checked the tag on mine and the BOM was there, along with some other #'s. You should find the same thing.
