I finally talked my friend into getting rid of his 1999 V-10 and ordering a new Cummins. He is taking delivery as I type. I know the 2001 autos are beefed up and have full rated HP. How much beefier are these trannies and how will they handle a "little extra" power?

Barry:

I don't think the 2001. 5 transmissions
are a whole different other than the
electronics. The stock Dodge TC and
valve body are not up to the performance
standards of the aftermarket products.

I would tell you friend to DEFINITELY
add at LEAST a shift kit or complete
valve body for "minor upgrades" as you
mentioned. I ran my stock Dodge transmission
for 98,000 miles with a #6 TST plate, and
mild pump upgrades; although I had a
"Trans-Go" Shift Kit installed almost
from day one. Today, I would go with a
complete valve body for the mild upgrades.
Anything past that and I feel you will
need BOTH the heavier TC and valve body.
The stock line pressures are just too low
for serious "BOMBING" on the automatics.

Hope this has helped to answer your
question.

barry , what exactly is "a little extra power" ? VB is minimum but the stock TC just plain is horrible , they would be minimum to me if i did it over again before any bombing . but in order to do it right he really needs to decide how much extra is enough , it gets very expensive guessing .

I am going to start him out with just an EZ and 4" turbo back. He is an old Chrysler guy and past serv. mgr. so he gets things done you and I can't get done. We'll see what happens... ... ... His V-10 was a ddooogggg.

i have to admit i was a lucky guy as my stock TC and trans handled my bombs to the tune of a 15. 48 1/4 mile time , slipped nothing to my knowledge , maybe the TC once , but it never happened again so it just may have unlocked .

but its better to be safe than sorry , the diece of mind you get from the better products is worth twice the price to me ... bill ignore that twice the price comment #ad
