OK, I know my truck runs pretty darn good. But today, I got to find out what a truck that runs REALLY good drives like! We had a BOMB party in Rainier, OR with the NW BOMBers. One of the guys was installing a new track bar on a 2nd gen and one of his bolts was too short. Now in that part of NW OR/SW WA, there aren't that many places late on a Satruday afternoon to get grade 8 bolts. The one place I knew of was about 15 minutes away. Rip Rook said he was driving but didn't have a clue how to get where he needed to go so I volunteered to navigate.

Off we went, got the bolt and heading out the store, he hands me the keys. I tried to keep a straight face but I doubt I was too successful. This truck is running in the 11s on #2 alone. I think his dyno # are in the low to mid 600s with 1100ft-lb torque. Through town, there's not much you can do but just driving a truck with those capabilities was something. Once back in OR, he turned on the box and told me to head up the hill once I knew there were no cops around. This is a hill that is about 1/5 miles and 7%.

Made the turn and "gently" got on it. When that big turbo lit off, it was something. Backed out of it then not so gently got on it.   Holy #%&@!!! We went form 40 to 90 in the blink of an eye and the sound of those spooled up twins was impressive!!!

When we got back, I was all :D :D :D and Oo. Oo. Oo.

Thanks Rip! Your truck kicks booty!

Rip's truck is awsome Oo. Oo. I've heard about it from people who drive diesels and frequent Wilsonville - they were "diesel non believers".

Don't sell your truck short though, you're well over what was thought of as the max on first gen trucks just a few years ago. We are over 400 hp on #2 now and have even hit 500 with water methanol. Those numbers are a significant milestones. I feel it's like running 500 hp with a 2 bbl carb. in a gas passer :D :D

Carl, how long before you work up a set of twins? I kinda figure the turbo pic you put the post on about might have something to do with this! :D

I've been wanting to take a ride in one of the high HP trucks, will get a chance one of these days. My wife is still on me to get a new crew cab truck, but if I get a new one I'll be a little hesitant to void the warrantee. If a wait a couple of years and pick up a good used one, it will be easier to start bombing it.

No, that turbo REALLY is just one that I have sitting in my garage. Wanted to know if it would fit the older 1st gens before I try to get rid of it. IF I was gonna go the twin route, the PDR HX35 I have on now would probably be my small side.

Notice I said "IF", not "WHEN". I would be a single man if I spent the money to put twins on. Besides, If I was going to put twins on something, ... Oh, never mind. I better not go there. :-laf

yeah - hp envy is a curse for sure. :-laf I rode in Harry's rig up at PDR's dyno fest last year - it does burnouts like the General Lee - damn! And, it was, um, addicting as well..... just took a while to get the rubles stashed away for the Big Dip.

After talking a lot with NASCAR Mark and a few other bubbas I decided that one turbo just wasn't enough either... soooooo my order to PDR will be coming up really shortly. I'm going full tilt, but with the towing twist: PDR Stage II head, PDR cam, twins, and fuel upgrades, ATS manifold, full-tilt DTT transmission, 4" Pacbrake, 4. 10's, GearVendor od, and a bunch of other custom crap with the body that'll make this thing really damned big and scary. Should be fun tho! :-laf :D :D

Ah, let me guess ... single? :-laf :-laf

Sam, you are going to have quite the rig there when you get it all done! I look forward to hearing about it as work progresses.

Carl

... yup, single, but that don't stop me from looking for more ways to do somethin' stupid. ;) Hey, sooner or later some really awesome girl is gonna look at all this nonsense of mine and decide that I might not be a bad dude to hang around... and when I meet that one girl out there can read past the cover, that's when I'll know she's 'the one'. As it is, still lookin' - I guess that's why they call it fishin' and not catchin', eh? :p

On the rig, yeah it should be big and bad. It kind of morphed into my own version of an RV. It'll eventually have a nice bed camper on it, and if the aforementioned 'the one' wants a boat, jet skis, more cars, well there'll still be plenty of payload capacity to haul it all around with. And if the off road bug bites real hard I'll have the little Ramcharger to go 4xbashing... :-laf

In about 7 years I'll be able to retire from the Air Force, and if all goes really well I may be able to take a year off and possibly travel the USA, all over the country, and maybe head overseas for some road trippin', and so long as there is #2 around, so will this rig.

Ahhh, the stuff of dreams - but hey ya only go around once so ya gots to aim high!
