I’m not sure if this qualifies for 911, but it sure feels like an emergency while crossing Kansas overnight in the fog, with no defrost or cruise control!
Truck is an 05 dually with a flatbed and big camper on it.
I am suspicious of some butt splice wire splices that were done to the wire loom behind the valve cover, after a rouge drill bit incident. These look super well don't, and I just spoke to the guy who did them, and while he admits he's not perfect, he'd would be shocked if one of these is the culprit.
The splices were done professionally and look great. It all worked fine on a trip to utah last weekend
I’d love to know which color wires might be the first to test.
Can I try jumping past these with a jump wire that has needle point ends?
Before his fix, we had a disabled a wheel sensor, and we’d lost ABS and cruise but still had speedometer, which has now left the building.
Another theory is the line to the rear differential speed sensor.
We ruptured an air spring, suspiciously timed with a tire rotation. The air bag is right by that wire that goes to the speed sensor, and while it looks fine, i know I was smacking it lightly with a ratchet while swapping out the air bag.
My son has also added a plethora of lighting to the rig, who’s wires aren’t as tidy as I’d have liked.
One is a switch that powers reverse lights from the cab, that seems to have shorted out the truck’s ability to self power the reverse lights. They do still come on with his switch.
We are in the middle of Kansas on a week plus trip the south east.
There is a Ram dealer in Kansas City, that I am planning to stop in to shortly, but would love test the right wires for shorts myself.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Dave.
