I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Nowel on several occasions and I was always struck at how he welcomed all Diesel enthusiasts regardless of brand or horsepower. I will personally miss him greatly. My deepest sympathies to his family and close friends.

It was not until I read Joe's post that I could put my feelings completely into words:

So long, Nowel.

Nowel was a great friend!!! I will truly miss his e-mails, our phone conversations and our steak dinners!!! Nowel was one great guy. May God take you in his arms good buddy!!

My prayer are with his family. .

Nowel will be missed greatly. I, as many others, got my start by calling him and getting my Power Edge three level box from him for my new 2000 one ton. It really woke the Cummins up. He got me hooked on the Bombs and it didn't stop there. I never got to meet him face to face, but it doesn't matter. He was one of a kind.

Rest in Peace Nowel!!!

I first met Nowel for the first time 4 or 5 years ago at May Madness in carson valley. I remember how excited I was to see the Red Rocket sitting ouside the Carson Valley Inn hotel. I talked to him for the first time there and kept in touch ever since. I'd see him in Tulare every year and always enjoyed reading his posts. He always got my business simply because he was the most pleasant guy to deal with, not to mention full of knowledge. Nobody I ever knew was as excited about diesel performance as him - what passion.

I was talking with him on the phone about turbos and injectors the afternoon before this happend just before he picked Richard up on their way to Texas. Who could have known it would end like this. I consider you a friend Nowel. You will be remembered with fondness and missed with great sorrow. God Bless and God Speed my friend.

Well, what else can be added to the already countless prayers and rememberances of Nowel that have been said and expressed...

But, to add to the collective memory of our departed friend, I will add my own introduction to the Captain of 24 valve power and pioneering.

Right after I bought Godzilla, I was still getting aquainted with the TDR and who was who. I heard about this guy in the Bay area that was just doing unimaginable things to these trucks. In December that year, this other member by the name of Brandon [Fenley] was hosting a TDR get together at his shop in Modesto, and when I heard this HVAC guy was going to be there, well baby, I had to go!

So I met him that day, and I started talking to him about this performance thing, and what it could do... as we can all imagine, it was all downhill from that moment on. I quickly ordered a set of DD3 injectors, an EZ and 4" exhaust from Nowel, and he and Chris Sutton installed them for me at the next meet Brandon hosted for us, in early 2001.

I got to see the Red Rocket race a few times in Sacramento, and am truly honored to say Nowel was my friend.

Nowel, be careful not to smoke too much up there among the clouds my friend, or God might give you a smog ticket ;)

Condolences to all his friends and family.

I can't really express what I am feeling right now. Nowel and I had lifted our glasses of beer a number of times over the years. I'll lift my glass tonight in his honor, and with fond rememberance.

Nowel truly was one of the most decent people I've ever met, and will be sorely missed.

My condolences to his sister and grandmother. May the knowledge that Nowel touched so many people's lives, both here on the TDR and elsewhere, comfort you. His good nature, humor, and enthusiasm will not be forgotten.

HVAC is one of the most charismatic individuals I have ever met. I feel priveleged to have spent time with him on 3 different occasions, most recently at Bullydog's event in Aberdeen Idaho last July where we were able to spend quite a bit of time BSing. More recently we were PMing last week and he was hoping I would go along with him and Maddog on this trip that was tragically cut short :(

The thing that impressed me about Nowell is it seemed you could call him about anytime and he treated you as a friend and took the time to talk to you. Before I'd even met him in person I was on a trip to Californa and decided to call his cell and let him know I was in the area and he wanted to meet up. I met him and Mike Crossley in Manteca and spent the day going up to see Willyslover in the mountains (who was recoveing from an accident earlier that year). I had a blast BSing and riding in the wild Red Rocket. He bought us pizza and was very accomodating. The highlight of the day came when Nowell tossed me the keys and said "you drive. "

Nowell has been a big part of this group and as mentioned a big proponent of diesel performance, especially for us 24-valve guys. We were the rarity back then. But as much as he was about diesel power and his crazy fast truck, he was even a greater person as an individual. He was caring and wanted others to share in the joys of diesel power. There were a number of times I needed advice on something and he was willing to share. And I had never bought anything from him :(

Here is a very old thread some might enjoy reading that Nowell started in August 1999 when he was new to TDR. He had just discovered the Blue Box and you can see it was all downhill from there!!! I've bumped this one up a few times to keep it out of the cellar. Note that he was 'hvac' (lowercase) then . . .

Take care good buddy. . .

I've heard so much about Nowel and now it's easy to see why he was so well regarded by everyone.

On behalf of Piers Harry and all of us here at PDR, we'd like to extend our most heartfelt sympathy to Nowel's family.

Too often the really great ones are called away, only to leave a vacuum in their departure... in Nowel's case, he has left many friends and believers in his place, his patience and good natured help is all to rare in a world that is often too self-centered... .

So many things left undone Nowel... but I think others will carry on in your image, you've always "paid it forward" in spades... it's our turn to "put something back on the wheel" in your memory. .

The PDR family. .

Piers & Louise, Harry, Mark, Kate, Amelia, Mark, Bob, Mark, Dave, Brenda & Morgana.....

Hvac will be missed

fest 3 said it best, you are not heard vocally but you will always be in our trucks, minds, here at TDR and in our hearts

well see you by there someday

god bless bill babcock

My condolences to Nowel's sister and Grandmother.

Nowel was recognized as a leader in 24v diesel performance, but as all can attest to, he was a leader, period.

I will miss Nowel.

I did not have to meet Nowel in person to know and understand what a great person he was. My sincere condolenses to his family and friends.

I only met Nowell once and he was such a great guy!

You will be missed!

My Condolences go out to his family..... and the Red rocket!

I do not know how to express how much this man has affected Diesel Performance, and my life. As I sit here, and type this, I can hardly see my keyboard and screen for the tears that this news brings me.

Nowell, we met once, and talked on the phone once, but you will not be forgotten. GodSpeed Nowel. Anytime I see a dark cloud, I will be reminded of you. God Bless You.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I admired his wisdom in his posts, and the video footage of him at the dragstrip. It's a very tragic and sudden loss for his family, friends, and the diesel community. He is missed already, but will be remembered.

This is news that none of us wanted to hear ! I mentioned in a previous post that he and the red rocket are what got me into diesel's and though I never met or spoke with him I recieved some of his knowledge and insight through this very forum as well as the diesel performance site. He will never be forgotten here at TDR !

God bless Nowel ... ... Our prayers go out to his family.
