I would say that if you're going to go to the trouble of removing the HVAC assembly, replace all the doors. The only one that doesn't require replacement (and is not available from HT) is the slave door for the temperature control. It never comes up against a hard stop and therefore doesn't fail. The new doors from RAM are supposed to be improved, but are still more $ than the HT doors.

I agree. If you pull the whole heater out, I would change them all. I wouldn't buy new plastic doors from Dodge - mine were replaced by the dealers twice before I had to replace them with steel doors from HeaterTweeter. They've worked fine for several years now, but now I have an incoming air restriction problem (that I believe is unrelated), but for now I have a 3/4" x 3/4" piece of wood zip tied into the recirculate door behind the dash to allow cab air to enter the heater at all times until I figure out what's restricting the air coming from outside.

I just noticed that I have this issue too with the defrost door on my 3rd G 2006. I'm with KRY226 on just pulling the HVAC box and replacing them all. I watched the videos at Heat Treaters, and I don't really want to cut up my box or break welds. While I have the box out, how many would replace the heater and evaporator cores? I'm not having any issues with heat or A/C, but I'd sure hate to do it again.

I have a 2nd G that needs an evaporator core too. I'm going to have a fun couple of weekends in the Spring! Thanks for the great posts.

I'll have to pull my dash again just to replace the semi leaky core so take my word for it and do it once, not twice.

My heater core and evap were fine, so I put them back in. Heck, a new core may start to leak someday as well, especially if it's from China or someplace similar.

I could just get a "genuine" Chrysler/Dodge part made in Brazil or Mexico. (LOL) I did check prices from Autozone, Advanced and Napa and for a heater core, evaporator and accumulator, it would be in the neighborhood of $250. But, I do appreciate the point.

I"m just finishing that job now I replaced the heater core ,And when I went to install the HVAC box back in I noticed the flare on the 3/4 ac line had been pulled almost straight .Ordered up a new evaporator and hope to have it in by Fri. . Parts for heater core ,evaporator and a new accumulator to my door from Rock Auto was around $125.

I have an 06 with dual controls (driver/passenger) & heater treater said their system converts it to single control. Is there any way to keep it a dual control w/ht doors?

Dealer replaced twice under warranty now have 106k and only blows out of dash (and no warranty left)

I imagine if you pull the dash and do a factory style repair the heater treater doors will work. I'd call and ask. You may need extra doors.

At only 106m I would call the Chrysler 800 hotline number and nicely complain. Mine went out the second time just after the warranty and they fixed it for $100 deductible and guaranteed it for one year. The dealer wanted over $800. Unfortunately, the second fix didn't last but a couple years and I ended up going to the HeaterTreat option.

Great suggestion about calling Chrysler I may try that on Monday.

The truck went out of warranty1/21/2013 and it was long before that the blend door was fixed. I used to work at my local dealership and this late in the game I am afraid the only thing Chrysler May offer is parts if I pay labor. Now if they would pay labor I would gladly supply parts that work.

I can not complain to much since in January 2013 they upgraded the front steering to the new design for "noise coming from steering/front end" and it steers better than the day I drove it home with only 10 miles on it! All under warranty.

Just got this reply from Heater Treater I responded to him with a more detailed question and post any additional info he sends.

"Hi Duane,

We don't see a high rate of failure on the dual control systems and suggest just leaving it alone unless there is obvious physical damage. The difference may be a different control algorithm or stronger components, but failure of the dual control blend doors is rate.

On your vehicle we would suggest replacing just the re-circ, mode 1, and mode 2 doors."

I get it now
Just replace the re-circ, mode 1 & 2 doors on my 2006 and leave all else alone

Duane

I hate it when I try to make things harder than they are

Thanks for the help

Look and see if it's working behind the glove box. If it isn't, you may be able to take the blower out and look in there with a mirror and find what is restricting the movement and correct it. Usually the plastic hinges break, but you may come up with something easier than pulling the whole heater box out.

I just got the HT kit for my "new to me" 06. I bought all the doors because, if it's like anything else on this truck, they're all broken. Turns out, they weren't all broken...yet. The recirc door was broken though, and it was a fairly easy swap. I wasn't too crazy about chopping up the box, but cutting out the grill around the recirc door wasn't a big deal. Pretty straightforward from there. The fix worked well and I'll just keep the other doors for when they inevitably fail.
