A friend of mine just bought a B1 Kwikspool for his 2nd gen, and after we bolted that and a new set of injectors into his yesterday, he gave me his old HX-35. Put it on my rig today, and I must say I'm pretty pleased for a free turbo. Whines like crazy, which is a good enough upgrade for me, but also lowered EGTs, cleared up some smoke, and spools faster too. Can't get the pyro above 1100 (used to hit 1250 easy), so next weekend I'm going to bottom the fuel screw ( I had turned it down a tad because it was running so hot at WOT).

My question deals with the wastegate. When I installed the turbo today, I just plugged the wastegate. It will boost to 34 psi, which doesn't bother me. Is there an advantage to hooking up the wastegate? If so, what, and what would you hook the wastegate into?

Thanks

AJ

there will be an advantage to hooking it up once you crank that fuel screw. if you've got 34 psi now, you'll prolly be up to 38+ after. and that's (as far as i know) not very good with a stock set-up. when i hooked mine up, i just t'd off the spot my gauge goes into. there are a couple different plugged holes around that one, but they are all bigger (1/4" or larger pipe threads). just ran some air hose over to it. i have since gone back to my original set-up though. after finding out that the wg diaphragm had a hole in it, i cut the canister off. what's left is a spring. i think there is a pic in my gallery that should show it. much easier to adjust, although you're just regulating the exhaust pressure, not the manifold pressure. haven't had a problem yet though.

34-36PSI OK 38PSI a little high...

The waiste gate connects to the outlet side of the turbo housing there should be a small brass plug there.

if you've got a late model turbo, it will be on the compressor housing, otherwise you will have to come off the manifold. btw, where is you pyro probe?

Pre-turbo. Thinking about getting into the pump next weekend and doing some grinding on that little foot. Anyone tried that yet? Results? Worth another trip into the pump?

Are you using the 12cm housing from the 2nd gen turbo or one from your old turbo? If the 12cm housing, you'll be looking at some high egt's, and not much on the top end.

I just tapped my compresor housing were the id tag is and put a fitting in it. waste gate set @ 29 psi, and getting 48 psi out of mine. As far as the H1c im pretty sure your exh. housing will fit onto your hx35. Just be careful not to damage the exh. wheels when you do it.

I'd agree the 12 is a tad small if you have more than stock power from that injection pump. I have the 21 housing cause my rig is a tad overfueled

The H1C and the HX-35 is the same in terms of exhaust housing combos.

Yes it would be better than the 12. I've ran a non wg 14 housing on an H1c I had no problems and it made 37 psi if I can remember right. EGT's did'nt get over 1300 pre turbo. I have a wg/14 on an Hx35 now, its nice great spool up but I have a different set up now so I could'nt tell you (boost,EGT's)what it would do on a rotary pumped truck. It should be fine for you.
