I had a shot at getting a stock HX 35 from a 97, on Ebay. At the last minute, it shot out of my price range. The biggest reason I was trying for it was that it was down to the last day of bidding and it was $200.

Without any mods, is it worth the effort to put it on my truck? I haven't gotten a smaller exhaust housing yet and run stock injectors. The picture of the 35 showed it having it's own wastegated housing. Also, is the downpipe a different one than what a stock 93 has? What kind of exhaust mods are required to hook this up?

Lastly, I've tried several times to find out about the Ol' Smokey mount. Is this a homemade rig for a high flow air filter? Are the specs posted anywhere?

Thanks again for any help!!

If you can get the entire turbo a decent price, such as you mentioned, it would definitely be a good modification to your truck. FWIW, that turbo has a wastegated 12cm housing. It'll provide much quicker spoolup and much improved driveability, especially at lower speeds. Only time you're gonna run into trouble is if you start cranking up the fuel, that small exhaust housing is going to become a restriction.

The only thing you should have to change is the length of the top of your downpipe. It will need to be shortened about 1. 25" to allow the downpipe to clear the firewall and heater ducting. I'm not sure which years have this, but if it has an elbow cast as part of the back plate on the turbine housing, that will need to be changed to a back plate which has the flange that will connect to your downpipe. Here's a pic of what it should look like (the one in the pic is a H1C with a wastegated 14cm, but the HX35/12w looks just about the same)

The OldSmoky mount, made by TDR member OldSmoky is a mount that was designed for the BHAF. It also works with other filters such as a K&N or aFe. It is constructed of aluminum tread plate. If you look up OldSmoky in the readers' rigs he has some pics of the mount. I've also got a pic of the one that's installed on my truck here:

Post a wanted ad in the classified section here on TDR. You should be able to get a complete turbo in good shape for around $200 - $250 maybe less if your patient. Mine is off a 98 12v and had the bolt on back plate with the v-band setup.

Thanks for the help and pics! I'm going to keep looking around. I never even looked in Ebay until a few weeks ago. Quite a lot of stuff in there. I guess the big thing is being able to trust who you're buying from.
