Reese/Hidden Hitch Fifth Wheel Rail Install

Overload Springs

Last time I pulled our 5th wheel over I 40 in Arkansas it was terrible. That was in 1998 and I've avoided the road ever since. Can anyone tell me if its been improved? I've got to go from Texas back to the east coast again, and the trip would be shorter through Arkansas.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it (and I-30) have been much improved all the way across. The last time I was through there, a year or two ago, they were still doing some work East of Little Rock. I think it should be finished by now.

They had a new company re-do the road surface. It looked like they removed the top layer of concrete, then put down about 2 feet of high-grade asphault. Very nice.

The construction east of Little Rock is still underway--but it's not too bad. Memphis is a little rough, and a little construction still around Nashville. Other than that, into Knoxville, as I remember, you've got good sailing. If you're going north on 81 from K-town, there's some construction in PA, but nothing to worry about.

I don't remember any long delays or horrible roads from my last few trips out there--although, as always, your mileage may vary!

I-40 through LittleRock is bad, especially if you hit it at rush-hour. "Trucks" are restricted to the right lane and the lanes are narrow, with the big concrete barricades. East of Littlerock, there is one or 2 places where it goes to one lane, and there is a stretch that is rough. I say "1 or 2" because I have been through there 6 times since early December, and the construction zones keep changing!

When you hit Memphis, stay in the LEFT lane after you cross the Mississippi River bridge. Beware of the sharp curve and barricades going thru the construction to get onto I40/240. After you are on 240, keep to the middle or right lanes until you pass the split for the Millington exit (I forget the hwy #), then take the far left lane again for the left-lane exit to I-40 East . . then you're out of the Memphis confusion. At any of these 3 interchanges, if you are in the wrong lane, you're hosed!

"We are moving to Memphis"

Stock up on ammo, dead bolt locks, 16 penny nails to nail everything down that you don't want to walk off. And take a refresher self defense course. ... and don't forget the mosquito spray!

LOL

I already have a pretty good stock of ammo for the shotguns & rifles, but we don't own a handgun - *yet* ;)

Temporarily, we have an apt on Mud Island, but we are looking at homes further out of the city. It looks like no matter where we live, my wife is going to have to drive through some ugly neighborhoods to get to work in MidTown.

Thanks folks! TDR comes through again! :)

We'll plan on truckin' up through Arkansas, and I'll carry a copy of your responses with me for guidance.

Sure do appreciate your help.

I have heard that the Millington/Munford/Atoka area offers some nice bedroom communities for Memphis.

I spend a whole bunch of years in my younger days in and around Memphis. Left the area in 1989. Still have family and friends that work there and live over in Arkansas.

Eat a plate of BBQ and chitlins for me, will you?

Millington/Munford/Atoka area is exactly where we want to live. The hard part is finding a house we like *and* high-speed internet access.

I'll pass on the chitlins, but sure think about you next time I'm in the middle of a plate of BBQ or catfish. ;)

You will love being there right close the Memphis Motorsports Park!! Drag races in April by O O O OReileys They have some SCCA events and the Nascar trucks also, it is a pretty nice place with all the different types of racing that they hold.

Yeah, I noticed the signs for Memphis Motorsports Park and already scoped out their webpage ... looking forward to putting my Camaro back together and going out to "play". :D
