I just cleaned my sensor again and it was covered and I mean really covered with burnt diesel soot to the point where I had to use a toothpick to get all the build-up cleaned off. I have my own theorys about excess fueling, intake valve timing etc. Has anyone experienced this type of repeated build-up and found the reason why? I would imagine the intake runner must also be sooty. I have larger injectors and I do get a fair amount of smoke at lower RPMs. Thanx for anyone who has experience in this area.

If you have an exhaust brake...

you are a prime candidate for what you describe.

A few have had good luck moving the IAT to the intake horn. Marco suggests the temp reading will be lower which will change engine performance marginally (more fuel). Others have posted that they made the switch and have no ill effect and did solve the dirty IAT problem.

IAT

Pulled mine to clean & inspect. Barely even dirty w/ 36k miles on the truck. Always used the paper filters, and exhaust brake has been on since 20k. What type of filter are you using?
