Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.
I took out that stupid factory ***** cat and slid in 4" tubing all the way back to the rear axle where I then spent an evening fabricating my own square tailpipe using sheet metal. The hardest part was making the adapter to go from 4" round to 4" X 3. 5" rectangular. I also ran the piping high and then ran it downwards on a gradual angle from the rear axle back. This totally eliminates all of those goofy factory bends (that look like a triple "s" curve just to give clearance over the rear axle). I then gave it a gradual compound bend to get it around the spare tire and finished with a 30 degree bend out to the side of the truck (which left the pipe coming out at a 45 degree angle relative to the side of the truck). I decided to give the tip a long angular cut / opening, parallel with the side of the truck, really giving a beautiful sweeping look in the back. And holly cow does she howl!, along with the turbo screaming beautifully (BHAF and no silencer ring) and you can really hear it through the straight pipe now. Also, it feels like I gained 40 hp and before I would top out at 18psi of boost pushing it as hard as I dared. Today I hit 20psi without even overly-pushing it. All this with lower EGTs. The only drawback is that now I'll have to go get 60lb exhaust springs instead of the 30lb ones I have in right now, as my exhaust brake doesn't seem to hold me back quite as well with the new straightpipe setup. ohwell :-laf
